Advice on the social aspects of playing with boss/clients?

I got a promotion, it feels good, but the part I'm most nervous about is that I'm going to be asked to play golf with management from around the company and sometimes with clients.
I'd like to know how golf mixed with business usually goes. For example:
For background, the last time I played was in high school. I've been reviewing rules and etiquette, and feel ok there, plus there are tons of resources online. I bought myself a putter and practice cup to use around the house, and I'll spend some time at the range and probably do a few lessons, there's also tons of advice for improving on the game, which I'll do. But the question is more about the unwritten social aspects. In high school, we played very by-the-book, there was no drinking or clubhouse, and it wasn't a big deal if someone carried 3 clubs around our little 9 hole local course. I just want to not look like a noob as quickly as possible.

Hypothetical: Scrub to Scratch in 18 months. Is it even remotely possible?

Me and a buddy have recently gotten into golf and have both fallen in love with the game over the last 5 weeks, playing approx 15 rounds in that time. Neither of us are fantastic by any means, we both play some great shots from time to time but we struggle a lot with consistency, usually having 1 or 2 holes each round where we score double figures. We haven't recorded a birdie yet but we've had about 10 pars between us so far. We don't have an official handicap yet, but I've created a spreadsheet using a handicap formula I found online and I believe our handicaps are both sitting in the mid 40s. I know that's really not great but it's dropping rapidly and we're predicting that we'll probably both be in the mid 30s by the time we've played 25ish rounds.
Earlier this week we tried predicting how many rounds it would take us to break 100. Then today we both played our best rounds ever. I shot 118 after a horrendous 66 on the front 9 followed up by a 52 on the back, my friend shot a 112 with 58 on the front and 54 on the back. If we're capable of 9 hole scores of 52 and 54 that include 3 putts, 4 putts and multiple scuffed shots then I feel like we're both just consistency over 18 holes away from breaking 100.
This is when the hypothetical questions began. First we asked whether either of us would accept a bet, laying a large amount of money at 5-1 odds, essentially winning more than a comfortable years salary (purely hypothetical, neither of us would make a bet of that size), if we could break 90 within a year. After a lot of discussion we both decided that if we could essentially play golf full time for a year with the incentive of a sizeable years salary, then there should be no reason we couldn't break 90 within a year.
Then we took it a step further, and this was where we wanted to get the opinion of some golfers much more experienced and knowledgeable than ourselves. If a golfer such as ourselves, at our current skill level and with our limited experience, took 18 months off to play golf full time, would it be even remotely possible to achieve a scratch handicap? Here are the parameters. $15,000 to spend up front on properly fitted clubs, memberships, professional lessons, other golfing equipment and expenses. We can only count scores towards our official handicap if the round was played from the tips (this will add a lot of extra difficulty as neither of us are huge hitters). If achieved then we win a life changing amount of money, so motivation will never be a problem. This would be treated as a full-time job, "working" at least 6 days a week and over 10 hours a day either playing, practicing, studying or working out.
A bit about me. I'm 26 years old and live in New Zealand. We have plenty of courses to choose from in our city, as well as an indoor simulator if the weather or lack of daylight doesn't allow for outdoor golf. I'm not in great shape and I'm not overly strong or naturally athletic, so I would also have to work on my fitness and strength on top of my golf. I currently have a slight slice on my drives and long iron shots that I would need to fix, but that has been improving over the 5 weeks we've been playing. My maximum driver length is currently about 230-240yards if I hit it perfectly, usually closer to 200. Approx 160y with my 5i through to approx 100y with my PW.
This is all hypothetical of course, being able to take 18 months off to play golf full time would be an absolute dream. But we just want to know, given all these parameters, would it be possible for golfers like us to go from scrub to scratch after 18 months of playing full time, or is that completely insane?
TL;DR : Could a relatively new golfer with less than 20 rounds under their belt and a mid 40s handicap become a scratch golfer within 18 months if they treated golf as a full-time job and didn't have to worry about start up costs?

Here are my thoughts on in-person classes

  1. I think everything was wiped to VRT temporarily.
  2. They are going department by department and manually figuring out how to seat certain classes. That's why the same course but different section is listed as VRT and CLASS. (If you see this in the course catalogue there is a very high chance your course will be in-person even if a different section is currently listed as VRT. It will be changed later!)
  3. Many of the VRT classes will 100% change to in-person. I have zero doubts about this. They want to keep Temple students at Temple.
  4. I think Temple will start staggering certain lectures and expand their start/stop time, starting as early as 7AM and as late as 10PM.
  5. I think Temple will cut in-person lecture time in half and the other half will be "hybrid" that you are responsible for your own time in order to meet the Credit Hours
  6. I think classes will meet in-person at least once a week with the other 2-3 sessions being hybrid. If not once a week then maybe every other week. I think each traditional in-person class will have a mandatory in-person session. (People not securing off campus housing might be fucked here)
  7. I think things like LAB and STUDIO will 100% be in-person. They just haven't figured out the logistics yet. Once they figure out the logistics they will change VRT labs and studio to in-person. It's simply not realistic to assume these courses would not be in person.
  8. I am willing to bet creative STUDIO courses like painting will be done outdoors
  9. Temple WILL setup tents or temporary trailers to accommodate classrooms. There will probably not be much room to walk outside. You may be prohibited from walking around campus unless going to a class. (You can fit like 30 trailers in the Ritter walkway. Each trailer can probably fit 10 students)
  10. SOME classes will remain online, especially if it is a class that historically offered online and in-person.
  11. It is unlikely that colleges will shut down again. The country can't afford it. Every local and state government is trying to avoid it at all costs. This doesn't just include colleges, but elementary and high school students as well.
  12. I think the freak out was a normal reaction. But I have a very strong feeling Temple is going to do their best to keep students on campus. That is their revenue. They need people to buy merchandise, and buy books from their bookstore, and buy food.
  13. I do not believe that spacing 6 feet in a very small closed space for 1 hour does anything to protect you from coronavirus.
  14. I think all elevators may be closed, except for Temple employees and handicapped. I think normal non-handicapped students will be forced to use the stairs (6ft spacing... sorry people with asthma... you may be fucked here too).
  15. I think schedules will be finalized as late as last week of July!
That's all I thought of for now!

Why you need to bet on Sports

Casinos have been full of gamblers and poker rooms are all full of poker gamers, but a lot would be much better off when they quit exactly what they truly are undertaking and started out gambling sport.
This is simply not because gambling on gambling is much easier. However, it may be profitable. Casinos are all made to make income from players and poker rooms earn dollars by carrying rake from every hand. A couple of poker people may overcome the rake, but the majority of these eliminate. And virtually each and every casino gambler wins. However sensible sports bettors may acquire.
Find more information regarding the method that you are able to be described as a winning sports bettor by reading through these explanations every gambler needs to discover to sports betting.
  1. Countless of Betting Possibilities –
After you know to gamble on sports, then you will find absolutely a large number of gambling chances. You may wager on almost any match played at the well-known leagues, esports matches in addition to some other occasions played around the whole world. Even the significant sports possess thousands of matches over the program annually, also should you put in college sports betting are more gambling chances. Of course, in the event that you would like the occasion to gamble on more matches, look in the football leagues who are all run all around the whole world. Football is known as soccer in many nations beyond the States. Each one of the gaming chances is not only great for collection. They are sometimes lucrative for sports bettors. The subsequent two segments each make clear an alternative reason thousands of matches might be flipped to long-term revenue.
  1. The Capability to Master –
As a way to entirely realize just why many gambling chances supply you with an opportunity to earn a profit, then you have to get a really good rough comprehension of how Sportsbooks do the job. Sports-books come running an operation to earn cash. Instead, they earn cash by presenting gambling lines and amassing more commission on stakes which players eliminate. Whilst it will not come about with just about every line up that they feature, the Sports-books lock at a revenue whenever they have precisely the exact same quantity of cash wager on just about every facet of the match.
This contributes that the Sports-books to place up their traces based on just how much dollars, or manage, and they are able to get on every single of the line-up. That is not necessarily a true forecast of what is likely to transpire at a match. The Sports-books need to put traces or most of the matches available on this program. They place traces for everyone the matches in favorite sports leagues, also about how a number of different matches too.
It truly is essential as you may concentrate in one region and possess a fantastic opportunity to forecast the consequences of forthcoming games a lot better compared to sportsbook place these outlines. Together with each of the data and information readily available now, you will turn into a specialist within the region wherever you concentrate. This really will demand a fantastic deal of function, nonetheless, it truly is something which you could really do.
Maybe not merely will you have got the capacity to concentrate, nevertheless, you want to concentrate. Most gamers do not concentrate in virtually any discipline, & the majority of these shed regularly. Quit doing exactly what losing bettors perform. Decide on a place of sports gambling to concentrate in and eventually become a specialist. This really will assist you to study how to disability game titles into your field of specialty and acquire more stakes.
  1. The unpredictability of Betting -
You heard early in the day that Sportsbooks put lines onto a high number of matches. The huge Sportsbooks set their particular traces, and also a lot smaller Sports-books slip their traces from some other novels. After you assess outlines out of many diverse Sportsbooks you most likely notice they are exactly the exact same or shut. However, lines which would be the shut although maybe not the exact same may provide the chance to earn revenue.
This really is the reason you constantly should take a look in the accessible lines in as much diverse Sports-books as you are able to. Every match that you simply handicap or appraise and also pick that you just may possibly gamble can simply be lucrative once you look for a gambling line-up that provides worth. When you will find a couple of lines, this can supply you with more significance. Consistently start looking for traces that change in 1 sportsbook into the next for profits and value.
  1. Grow in Long Term -
Everything which you have heard to the aspect is very essential, mainly because all these are things which permit some wise players to earn long-term profits gambling online betting. Each one of the matches within the program creates chances. Even the Sports-books cannot always place lines that are perfect, also should you focus you are able to discover to execute a much superior job calling games compared to those novels.
The reality is it is tough to create forecasts that are accurate, however with sufficient job and training a few folks might do it. You simply figure out whether you may create a rewarding bet whenever you assess your own forecasts into the outlines which can be readily available. This can be the way very good handicappers earn long-lasting earnings. And you will be able to discover to complete it too. It commences using focusing as though you heard in a previous department. Follow your abilities skills in your technical field, then find because of many traces as possible. Start gaming little as you construct your own abilities and continue mastering. With ample training, it is possible to possibly make long-term profits gambling on sports.
  1. Practically Infinite Betting Possibilities –
The previous thing which you want to understand about gambling online is you may focus on the funding of just about any dimensions. Most on the web Sportsbooks accept bets only $1 or even not, and territory established Sportsbooks sometimes accept stakes as large as 1,000,000 or longer.
And that will not even insure how you may gamble together with buddies, family members, and individuals that you assist or understand about any bets you may acknowledge. In the event you would like to gamble $10 to get a match between your favorite group, then you will locate somewhere to create the guess. Or even in the event that you'd like to guess £ 100,000 around the super bowl, you will come across a sportsbook eager to shoot the actions.
That could not appear to be a huge bargain, however, a few among the principal issues casinos confront is that they must put dining table minimum stake sums in their matches in order that they are able to manage to continue to keep the tables. When your casino comes with a desk minimum wage of 20, you want a greater chunk in the event that you'd like to engage in the long term.
However, you may gamble online without even having hundreds or even tens of thousands to start. Of course, in the event that you know just how-to disability games to earn a long-lasting gain, then you will create larger stakes because the results grow. Start off earning small stakes, then increase your stake size since you become good in calling final results. Of course, should you hit a tough spot, lessen your guess levels and soon you put straight back on trial. Sports gambling is among those very few means by which in which you may gamble with whatever bankroll and also gambling degree which you would like.
Conclusion
With tens and thousands of matches accessible to gamble on every single calendar year, Sports Betting supplies the optimal possibility for wise gamblers to acquire. Even the Sports-books cannot potentially establish an ideal line-up for every single match in the program, which means that you may concentrate at a little gaming area in order to discover traces that provide profit and value.
Discover to appraise and disability matches, start off gambling tiny and creep your bets up while you know to gain frequently. Online sports betting is an opportunity you simply cannot see in a number of different kinds of betting. Use this now today.

Soccer Betting Guide

Soccer is arguably one of the most played sports in the world thanks to recent success in high profile tournaments by the national team and the watching public has jumped on the band wagon.
Soccer betting has also seen a upturn in recent years also due to live coverage of Europe's best leagues and tournament namely the EPL and the Champions League.
Most leagues consists of 16-20 teams who battle it out each year in a bid to qualify for the finals series and go onto the grand final at the end of the season and be crowned champions.
The EPL does not have a finals series and is won purely on merit with the league leaders taking the trophy after 38 grueling games.
The Champions League brings together Europe's elite with the top teams from the previous seasons domestic competitions fighting it out for the coveted trophy, six group games are followed by a home and away knock out phase which leads to the final two teams going head to head.
Soccer is played over two fourty five minute halves and the rules are simple, score as many goals as you can.
The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match and collects three points, if the match ends in a draw then the teams take one point each. This was done to prevent teams from settling for bore draws.
Common Bet Types For Soccer.
Head To Head Betting.
This is a general win - lose - draw (1X2) bet placed on either of the two soccer teams competing in a single match, soccer is one sport that the draw comes into play due to the low scoring nature of the sport.
Line or Handicap Betting.
This option relates to the online betting sites handicap that is given to the team that is expected to lose in a bid to even the match up and the prices accordingly.
The online bookmaker will offer the inferior team a virtual head start in line with their current form and the line could be anywhere a little as 0.5 goals all the way up to 3 or 4.
Example - Liverpool are priced at 1.1 to beat Swansea in the head to head market but once the handicap is formed lets say Swansea gain 1.5 goals then the line betting would be 1.9 the pair.
If Swansea either win the game or lose by no more than 1.5 goals then it is Swansea that is deemed the winner in the market.
Correct Score.
As it sounds, place a bet on the match for the correct score at full time, home win, away win or draw.
Example - Liverpool to win 1-0, if they win 1-0 your bet is up but any other score and it's a losing bet even if Liverpool won by a different score.
Margin Betting.
This market is solely about what the difference in scores will be at the end of the game between the two teams.
You can pick set margins that the betting site has priced up which usually consists of band ranges or you can go for the exact margin a team will win by.
Example - Liverpool 1-2 goals, this means that if Liverpool win the match by anywhere between 1-2 goals then your bet is a winner.
Alternatively the exact margin would be if you placed a bet on Liverpool to win by 3 goals then they would have to win by that margin and that margin alone
First and Last Goalscorer Betting.
Pick a player to score either the first goal in any half or the last goal in any half and if your selection obliges then your bet is a winner.
Most Goals Betting.
You can pick any given player to score the most goals during the match of the players playing and if your selection manages to score the most or tie then your bet is good.
Example - Player A scores 2 goals and the nearest rival only manages 1 goal then player A is the winner OR player A and B score 2 goals each then they are both deemed the winner and the odds of the selections are halved.
If three players score the same amount then the odds are a third of the original and so on.
Yellow and Red Cards.
You can bet on how many cards will be given out during the match, there are different variations of this bet type some betting sites offer a points system e.g 10 points for a yellow and 30 points for a red.
Half Time Full Time Betting.
This market allows you to place a bet on a result at half time and then the result at full time.
Example - Arsenal FC to be leading at half time and at full time OR a draw at half time and Man Utd to win at full time.
It is a good option to inflate your odds on any given match.
Futures.
EPL Winner.
This is a very popular bet, a simple win bet on who will be crowned EPL champions at the seasons end.
There is no finals series in the EPL so the champion is the team that sits at the top of the league after 38 games.
Europa League Winner.
This is a win bet on who will win the Europa League title after the finals is complete and one team comes out on top in the grand final.
Champions League Winner.
Europe's premier tournament held each year, the best teams across Europe compete in a group phase and then a knockout phase to be crowned kings of Europe.
FA/FFA Cup Winner.
Cup competitions are always popular with fans and they are often hot betting markets. A simple win bet on which team will lift the cup.
Most Goals.
This market allows you to bet on the player you think will score the most goals throughout the season.

Wagering on GOLF to consistently make money

This needs to be said as PGA handicapping interest seems to be growing on here:

For anyone newer to PGA betting, DO NOT TAIL ANYONE. No matter their record on here or them throwing their twitter handle out for you to easily follow. I know that sounds ridiculous to start with, espesually for someone starting new who has only been wagering on golf for a couple of years. You think.. Obviously they know more than me and have put more time into this than me right? Maybe. But to learn how to make money betting on golf you honestly need only one week to figure it out and that's all. Honestly it takes one week to understand VALUE and OPPORTUNITY and how to do it on your own. You need to be in control on your money and earn and lose it on your own conscience after doing your own due diligence.
You will find plenty of people online posting their expert picks. Some are very knowledgeable. Some are not. Where as some are playing the numbers and betting 10 outright, 10 match-ups and multiple daily leaders and each ways per tournament, there is nothing wrong with this. Although this style of investing in golf handicapping is no different than betting a ML on another sport. If this style of handicapping makes you money, stick with it. Just beware of people advertising their picks online in this format. Of course its easy to say "I've hit the last 4 or 3 winners" when they bet 15 Outright's that are all below 66/1 a week. Keep an eye out for this if you do follow. They are in deep with value plays to the point where their odds are diminished to even or slightly above. And that is up to you to decide if the choices are worth it over the money line in any other sport.

I'm not saying pick one or even only two players a week but never too many low odd players that diminish our winners when they do hit.

I've won 5 of the last 6 tournaments.
I'n 6 Weeks I've turned $200 into over $20,000. That's with never upping my unit amount.
Last year I ended the season at +$16,000.

Last 6 weeks:
Nick Taylor at +10000 for $7500.
Adam Scott at +3300 for $3300.
Patrick Reed at +4000 for $4000.
Sunglae Im +3500 for $3200.
(profited -$400 less as I put money on Fleetwood on Sunday as insurance.)
Tyrrell Hatton +5000 for $2500.
note: I also bet $1-200 total each week on other players which are -$ against the wins.
Was there a formula for each win? Not exactly. I won off of Value bets as well as Opportunity bets. We are here to make money and There never should be only one way of making that happen.

So if you read this far, let's get to how you can make your own money in a few weeks, possibly without even knowing anything about golf.
Easiest way (OPPORTUNITY):
The very first thing you need to do is get with a book that has Live updated odds during all the rounds.
Opportunity.. I'm sure everyone in here is betting with money they worked hard for. Remember that. So put that same time into your wagers as your daily work. Specifically Thursday and Friday Live Bets hold a ton of value. A lot of my winners are Value bets (We will get into) but for instance my Nick Taylor bet at +10,000 for $75 into $7500. or my Adam Long bet last year for $20 into $5000 are opportunity bets that just make absolutely too much sense not to take stabs at. Do these always hit. Obviously not always but, do they always make sense.. absolutely.
But when I placed the live bet is whats most important to how I make money.
Let's say its Thursday or Friday and you're home watching the tournament. Keep your favorite friendly gambling website(That offers live betting on PGA) open on your computer or phone..
Oh.. Wyndham Clark is on the broadcast and at -2 on the 12th. The leader is at -5 in the clubhouse. Wyndham JUST stuck his 2nd shot to 5 feet ... He has a 5 footer for eagle. This is where you should have already be signed on. and you rush to place whatever responsible amount you are willing to lose on a longshot. Lets say $20. You see him at +15000 and Hammer it for $20. Boom. He hits an easy 5 footer and now his odds are are +60/1. He has 6 holes remaining.. You know 2 of those are birdie holes. As long as you know your golfer and chose someone respectable he will at the very lease gain one more stroke before the clubhouse. Now you are going into the weekend with a $3000 opportunity that is at the very least tied for the lead off of a $20 bet with 2 days to go. Does that guy buckle to Rory.. or Phil? Sometimes. But sometimes..... Nick Taylor outlasts Phil Mickelson. Sometimes... Adam Long hits an amazing 2nd shot against a 3 way playoff to beat Phil Mickelson.

But if you don't know if this golfer named say Joel Dahmen who is about to putt for Eagle and at the very least make birdie with 2 birdie holes remaining, a quick google search to see if they have firstly a winning mentality or chance to win is important. Don't wager too much on a guy who can't finish if betting for the win. Their current form, their play at this tournament the previous couple years as well as their play at comparable courses (Extreme weather history is to be ignored but also remembered for who did well in this situation. Leishman, Lowry, Hatton...)

Value(Pre-Tournament):
At this point I don't care if I'm betting on Rory at +400 or a +50000 rookie. It is completely statistical opportunities that we are looking for. Example is Adam Scott at 33/1 at a course he has been dying to win, he said it in every interview but no one gave much attention. He technically won here on a short week because of weather. As well as he's coming off a win. But then a multi month break which scared betters and the books off... Also the previous win wasn't an important tournament. Yet it shows me he was and is in form.
And once you start to gain more understanding of the wind speed, grass type, who is in form, putting surface, shots gained on approach.. you begin to give yourself a damn good chance. As long as you keep to your money management throughout.

Some friends who don't know much about handicapping ask why I don't up my bet after winning $3,000-$8,000 the week before. And if anyone reads any of this post I want them to read this: Trust me... Bankroll management is the difference between making money to buy what you want as a side income and just losing a few hundred every day/week. That is honestly the hardest part of making money off of handicapping. You don't need to hit 65% of even money bets. All you need is to be smart about handling loses and that's all. Don't chase. Know that you can make the picks and wait till the next day/tournament. Don't chase on women's Czech tennis live at 2AM. Don't drunkenly bet! This is not how you earn money, this is how you lose it. Remember that next time you're tempted.

I just want to say I'm open to any questions anyone has in here or PM. As well as any criticism anyone might have as I am always interested in hearing another point of view on the matter of how we can all make money. $ Cheers.

Cheltenham Matched Betting Guide

With Cheltenham Festival coming up, I thought I’d put together a comprehensive guide and overview for what is THE most profitable time for matched bettors.

So whether you have been doing matched betting for a while or you’re completely new to the concept, with a bit of luck this post should be interesting/useful.

Just a quick disclaimer. Throughout this guide I will be referencing Heads&Heads, however, this is not a promotional piece. The advice below can be used and applied to whichever service you happen to be with. There will be an offer at the bottom of this guide. Ignore it if you are not interested, I won’t be offended – the important thing is we all smash Cheltenham while it is still so profitable.

Firstly, why exactly is this such a profitable time for Matched Bettors? Well, simply put, the Cheltenham Festival is one of the world’s biggest horse racing events. As such, all the bookmakers will be falling over themselves to ensure punters place their bets with them rather than their competitors.

Why Cheltenham is a Big Deal
Cheltenham Festival is one of the busiest times of the year for bookmakers with projections of around £500 million to be placed in bets over the 4 days of racing. There are a total of 28 races to bet on giving an average of around £17,850,000 bet on each race. Punters at the Festival and around the country betting online jump on early ante-post markets and last minute bets. The rise of mobile betting in recently years has given bookmakers a new way to connect with customers and now it’s easier than ever to place a bet wherever you are.
With so much money involved in betting on races at Cheltenham, bookies fight for customers in the run-up and during the festival. One way bookies entice customers to bet with them over a competitor is to run special promotions for the races. These can be in the form of free bet offers, money back specials, extra places, best odds guaranteed and more. Punters looking for the best value in their bets should take advantage of these enhanced offers while they are around as they can result in increased returns and minimised losses. All of this plays into the hands of matched bettors like us, who can take advantage of the value without incurring risk.
If you are holding back on completing welcome offers before Cheltenham, then you should know that several bookmakers run enhanced offers throughout Cheltenham. Some of the more popular ones being Betfair, SkyBet, Ladbrokes, Coral and Betfred.

6 Steps For Tackling Cheltenham
With all the offers and potential profit flying around it can become a little overwhelming. The best place to start is by simply practicing the basics - and that is our first of six steps for getting ready to tackle Cheltenham.

Note: I will update this post with the key offers closer to the time.

1. Practice Makes Perfect
When it comes to matched betting you can never get enough practice! You may think you understand every reload strategy there is. However, when the offers come as quickly as they do during Cheltenham, practice can be the difference between getting into breaking the £1,000 profit mark and missing out.
So, make sure that you have familiarised yourself with and practiced the popular horse racing offers before Cheltenham. These include 2nd to SP Fav, 2nd place refund, 4/1 winner, fallers insurance. Simply doing a Saturday’s worth of horse racing reload offers will tick a lot of these boxes.
If you would like to understand the concept a little more, we recommend going to the Training Section of Heads&Heads and looking at the guides under the sub-heading, ‘Offer Strategies’.

2. Be Organised
This can be best summed up as - make sure that your money is where it needs to be before the end of the weekend prior to Cheltenham (7th & 8th March).
Additionally, try to have completed the majority of the welcome offers for the major bookmakers. The key bookmaker to have ready is Bet365 – their Horse racing offer during the festival is massively profitable.
Set up a separate PayPal for faster withdrawals.
If you've not got a massive exchange balance, then on this rare occasion we recommend boosting its size using your own funds. Of course, because you’re matched betting the only risk is the tiny qualifying loss per offer, which you should be used to by now. The last thing you want is to be missing out on offers and not making the most of the available profit.
Try to get some bets on the night before if the odds matches are strong. Know which offers are available on which races and know what offers you want to go for on each race.

3. Go Easy Early
Do easy low stake reloads (Free bet on a loss, 2nd place, 2nd to SP favourite, etc) the night before if possible or early morning. The Exchanges will have a lot of liquidity, even hours before the races – meaning that you will not need to worry about unmatched bets when laying.

4. Odds Boosts & VIP
Look out for the boosts and make a note to check the Heads&Heads forums facebook group hourly for any updates on potential boosts. These will come thick and fast, but if you are quick, you can create some pretty incredible profit margins.
Additionally, make sure you check your email over the 4 days. There will be plenty of bookmakers handing out ‘tailored’ offers to their VIP members. VIP has a loose definition in the eyes of the bookmaker, so you’re likely to get a lot more of these than you think and they are often very lucrative.
If you want Heads&Heads to check a VIP offer before you attempt it, just post on the forum or message us on Live Chat.

5. Enjoy It
Sounds cliché but don’t let it stress you out. Making money is great but taking the week off work and then running yourself into the ground all week isn't worth it. Matched betting is a side earner – something to enjoy and be done in your spare time to earn you some extra cash. It should not feel like a job.

6. A Small Exchange Balance Is No Excuse!
Is it worth taking part with a really small bank like £500'ish?
Even if you just did the offers that guaranteed a profit, you’d still make around £250 and this would not require a massive exchange balance. So yes, it is absolutely still worth it.
What If I Am Gubbed by Most Bookmakers?
This is a very common question and not an unreasonable one either. After all it is incredibly frustrating to have your account with a bookie gubbed. This is even worse when a huge event like Cheltenham is coming up.
Honestly, it will restrict your ability to make money, but it is still possible to make a profit from Cheltenham.
Extra place strategies are worth looking at. This is made possible because Extra place betting doesn’t rely on you using free offers. So, if the bookie has only restricted your use of free offers then this is your best option. Furthermore, if you are restricted from getting reload offers by a bookmaker, you should still be able to take advantage of odds boosts. So, keep an eye out for these on the Heads&Heads Forum.
Anything I Should Be Looking Out For?
One issue to be aware of is that of the smaller bookmakers offering very generous odds. If an offer looks too good to be true then you should be careful. This was particularly true a couple of years ago, when a lot of smaller bookies offered really good odds and then refused to pay out people’s winnings.
This problem is unlikely to occur again (happened in 2017), with bookmakers under the spotlight by legislators like never before. In addition, if you have an account with the bookmaker prior to Cheltenham starting, then you’ll be slightly more trusted by the bookie and thus they will honour your pay-out.
Should You Book Time Off Work?
Are you planning to take time off work during Cheltenham? This could be a great idea. As well as watching the races on TV, you can stay up to date with all of the offers during the day. However, we want to stress that taking time off work is by no means 'required' to make money during this week.
That said, speed will be key for so many of the opportunities during the festival. You may only have a small amount of time to place your bet or lose the opportunity. Being at home will, of course, make this a lot easier.
However, not everyone can take all 4 days off. So which days should you prioritise?
Simple answer really. The first day – Tuesday (10th March).
The reason for this is that the first day sees more offers available than any other single day. The bookies tend to start off strong and tail off towards the end.

Our Predictions
Now, predictions may seem a bit useless as we are matched betting. However, knowing who the experts favour to win can help you pick a horse. So, for example, if an offer was triggered if your horse lost, you'd want to be sure you were avoiding those favoured to do well. So, use the below to help inform some of your decisions when completing Cheltenham reload offers.

Epatante
Epatante has caught the eye of punters during the early betting for the Champion Hurdle and, at the time of writing, rates as one of the strongest race favourites of the week. We likely have not seen the best of this horse.

Benie Des Dieux
Benie Des Dieux is quoted for a few Cheltenham races this spring but traders at major bookmakers are confident she will run in the Mares Hurdle. If she does, bookies expect her to win the race with a bit to spare.

Envoi Allen
Envoi Allen is priced as the standout horse in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle and traders believe he will take all the beating. A loss here will rate as one of the biggest upsets of the week. He won each of his first seven starts.

Defi Du Seuil
Defi Du Seuil can be found quoted in the Champion Chase antepost betting and the early money has been promising. He has won 13 of his first 18 and those stats aren’t to be taken lightly, certainly not by backers.

Tiger Roll
Tiger Roll is a fans favourite but have we already seen the best of Tiger Roll? As it stands Tiger Roll is the antepost favourite to win the Cross Country Chase and is a short price at that.

Every Cheltenham offer will be posted on the Reload section. It is also worth keeping up to date with the Cheltenham Forum thread – here the best offers of the day will be discussed.
If you are interested in giving matched betting a go or Heads&Heads a go I’ve posted a discount code below. As I mentioned at the start of the guide, you can either use it or not. The main thing for me will be people find one or two useful bits of info in this guide.

How to Choose the Best Dishwasher

How to Choose the Best Dishwasher

Buying tips: dishwasher
How can you choose the best dishwasher for your kitchen? Dishwashers vary greatly in terms of price and features, so it can be difficult to choose the best dishwasher for your home that also fits your budget. Once you have established how much you want to spend, it is important to consider the size and design of your kitchen, as well as how you will use your machine. For example, if you have a small family or are not very entertaining, your needs will be different from those of a larger family that is very entertaining. Or, if you have a kitchen that opens to a living room, you might be more concerned about noise levels than someone who has a closed kitchen. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind when buying a new dishwasher. While some of the best deals can be found online, we also recommend trying to check out some models in the store to check noise levels and make sure your dishes match what you're considering. Lastly, once you're done reading our buyer's guide, we also encourage you to read about how some of the best products compare to each other in our Best Dishwasher Review.
What to know before buying
Dishwasher Types and Dishwasher Styles
First, it's important to determine what size and style of dishwasher you need. While most people are buying standard built-in dishwashers, the size and design of your kitchen may be more suitable for another style. The different styles available include:
Built-in Dishwashers - Most dishwashers sold are standard or high-tub built-in dishwashers. These dishwashers are designed to fit a 24 "x 24" x 34 "(D x W x H) cabinet that opens under the kitchen counter. A full-size dishwasher will fit about 12 five-piece flatware While the high bathtub design can accommodate up to 14 (or even 16) places and is a better choice for those with large families or who like to entertain, prices can range from around $ 250 to almost $ 3,000.
Compact Built-In Dishwashers - If you have a smaller kitchen, you may need a compact dishwasher, measuring just 18 "wide and can accommodate up to 8 five-piece cutlery. These smaller dishwashers are also ideal in the secondary kitchen. Prices may range from around $ 400 to almost $ 1,000.
Dishwasher with Drawers - If you have a really small kitchen or family, or need a handicap-accessible machine, you might consider buying one or two dishwasher drawers. Drawers operate independently of each other but can be installed in the same space as a standard 24 "recess or even side by side. If you have limited mobility or are having trouble stooping, drawer dishwashers are ideal because they will be Significantly easier to use - prices can range from $ 650 to $ 800 for a single drawer, but some models may only be available in a double drawer design with prices reaching $ 1,500.
Portable Dishwasher: If you don't have space for a built-in or are renting an apartment or house without a dishwasher, you can consider a portable dishwasher, which requires no installation. These dishwashers come on wheels with laminated lids, so they can easily be stowed away when you don't need them or could even be used as additional counter space. Prices can range from around $ 200 to almost $ 700.
Even if you think you have a standard-size cabinet opening for a dishwasher, it's important to measure the space the dishwasher will go before making your purchase. You just need to make sure that the height of the opening will accommodate your dishwasher because sometimes the height of the countertop can be reduced for handicapped accessibility or you can also lose height if a new floor has been placed on top of the existing floor. Lastly, if you have a natural stone countertop and are buying a built-in dishwasher, you should consider one with a cabinet/side bracket because it will reduce the risk of cracking your countertop.
Cleaning technology
The first big difference you will find in terms of dishwasher cleaning technology is the type of filter the machine uses. The two options you'll find are a self-cleaning or manual filter, and which one you prefer for your home is more of a personal decision. A self-cleaning filter dishwasher is designed with a food grindedisposer. As the dishwasher washes your dishes, the self-cleaning filter will remove food particles in the water so they don't deposit back on items during the cycle. While convenient and effective, self-cleaning filter dishwashers generally tend to be noisier than manual filter dishwashers, unless they are designed with improved insulation, which can significantly increase the total cost. Manual filters are generally found in European dishwashers (eg Miele, Bosche, ASKO, etc.), and these models do not require the removal of hard food because they have slightly higher wash temperatures and use higher water pressure to break food particles. While dishwashers with manual filters are desirable because they are significantly quieter than their counterparts, be aware that you will occasionally have to clean the filter yourself. However, these machines have been said to have fewer breakdowns and more energy-efficient operation.
When it comes to noise levels, your best bet is to check the specific decibel (dB) rating in the dishwasher or, better yet, request a demo in a showroom. A difference of 3dBA is barely noticeable to the human ear, but some noise levels will seem less annoying than others. Below is a helpful guide (courtesy of osha.gov) that describes typical sound levels:
While not typically available in lower-priced models, some dishwashers are designed with smart sensors that can measure the size and ground level of a particular load, and then adjust the cycle time, water fill, and temperature of the water accordingly. In terms of wash cycles, you can expect even the most basic models to have around 5 cycles, including at least a normal, light and heavy wash (for pots and pans). You don't necessarily need more options, but higher-priced models may also offer additional cycles for added convenience. For example, some dishwashers have a delicate cycle for fine porcelain and glass, a turbo option for faster washes, or a variable intensity cycle that offers different cleaning powers between the top and bottom racks. Another convenient cycle to have (especially for cutting boards or if you have young children) is a disinfection cycle that will kill 99.9% of bacteria (check NSF certification). While most dishwashers will have two spray arms located under and above the bottom rack, some more expensive models will also have a third spray arm over the top rack to provide deeper cleaning.
Rack Storage System
When buying a new dishwasher, the rack storage system is another aspect to consider if you have some extra space in your budget. A well-designed system will allow you to keep items organized and reconfigure the interior of the dishwasher to increase its overall usability. Removable or adjustable top racks are useful when you want to be able to place oversized or oddly shaped objects underneath. Top shelves that feature folding / adjustable teeth, cup holders, and / or cup holders are also especially convenient, while on the bottom shelf useful features may include folding teeth, divided cutlery baskets, or height-adjustable holders for specialized glassware. Finally, we recommend opting for a rack system that has nylon coated teeth, which is a more durable material than vinyl.
What features do you need?
In addition to the specialty wash cycles mentioned above, you may also be interested in dishwashers that have other additional features (depending on your budget, of course!). One feature that doesn't add too much to the overall cost of your appliance is having a stainless steel tub. Very basic models may still have plastic tubs, but stainless steel tubs are more energy-efficient, can withstand higher temperatures, and do not retain stains or odors. If you can't afford a dishwasher with a stainless steel tub, don't worry; A plastic tub still works perfectly fine and is durable enough to last the lifetime of your machine. Another useful feature is having a delayed start option. This allows you to use the dishwasher at a predetermined time in the future and depending on your model, you can set it up anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours in advance (higher priced models generally offer more options). Another excellent feature is the leak protection, which will prevent water from spilling onto the floor if there is ever a leak or some kind of blockage in the machine. For added convenience, we also like it when the dishwasher has a control panel that features status updates, specifically a one-minute countdown until the load is finished. If you have a young child, a child safety lock is also an ideal feature because it will prevent young children from opening the door mid-cycle. Finally, if you live in an area with hard water, we recommend that you look for a model that has an automatic water softener built into it. Soft water makes detergent more powerful and also reduces etching and fogging of glassware.
Energy Efficient dishwasher
Another thing to consider when evaluating similar dishwashers is their energy efficiency, as it can have a positive or negative impact on your bank account and on the environment. Every time you buy an appliance, you will notice that everyone must show a yellow Energy Guide label. This label indicates the performance results for that particular unit on a standardized Department of Energy test related to its use of electricity. The label also provides an estimate of the unit's annual operating costs (exact costs will vary based on local utility rates and the type/source of energy) and compares those costs to similar models. If the dishwasher's Energy Guide label says the appliance is ENERGY STAR® qualified, it means the dishwasher is on average 5% more energy-efficient and 15% more water-efficient than standard models. Another important rating to consider when it comes to energy efficiency is the EEC rating of a dishwasher. The CEE is an Energy Efficiency Consortium and works with the ENERGY STAR® program to highlight models that use 17% less electricity than the federal minimum.
Exterior style
In terms of exterior styling, you will have to make two main decisions. First, you can go for a finished dishwasher or a custom panel. In terms of finishes, you're more likely to find stainless steel, but dishwashers with a black, white, or even bisque exterior are also available. If you want your kitchen to look more impeccable, you can go for a dishwasher that can be fitted with a custom panel to match the surrounding cabinets. The second aesthetic choice you will make in your dishwasher is how you want the control panel to look. You can have a fully exposed control panel on the front of the door (as in traditional models) or you can opt for a control panel that is semi or fully integrated (hidden) on top of the door. While some people like the front controls, others prefer to have the controls at the top of the door because it offers a more elegant appearance and you can see the buttons without leaning.
Now that you have a better idea of what you should know before buying a dishwasher, we encourage you to read about how some top products stack up against each other in our Best Dishwasher Review!

Insanity in Central FL

Greetings fellow hotel people. I hope your night is going MUCH better than my night. It is Valentines Day weekend, so all of the husbands that went out with their wives last night, are now at a hotel with their girlfriends tonight. On top of that we have the lovely Daytona 500 happening. Though my hotel is 90+ miles away from it, this event sells out EVERYTHING in central Florida. I have taken hundreds of calls tonight from people who are desperately looking for a room. But I had to tell you about the absolute best interaction I've had so far. For this story I will be M for me and SL will be Stubborn Lady.
Phone rings and I answer it.
M: Thank you for calling My Hotel, this is Imunclebubba how may I help you?
SL: Yes my name is Stubborn Lady and I was wondering if you have any rooms available tonight
M: Unfortunately I am completely sold out tonight.
SL: Even all of your handicapped rooms
M: Yes ma'am I have no rooms available.
SL: What about your Suites, how much are those tonight.
M: Again ma'am I am completely sold out.
SL: Well fine I'll just stay somewhere else. *click*
Alright then, I thought that was going to be the end of it, then a car pulls up. On their drive up to the front of my hotel they have gone past my NEON sign that says NO VACANCY, my scrolling LED sign that also says NO VACANCY/NO ROOMS AVAILABLE. They then read the printer printed signs on my door that say the same thing as the other signs, and the come on in.
SL: Yes I just talked to you on the phone I think. I want to book a room.
M: (Bewildered) Ma'am as I told you on the phone I have nothing available.
SL: Oh I just need any room, even if you have one down for maintenance or any issues at all I don't care
M: Ma'am I have no rooms that are currently unoccupied, every single room has someone in it.
SL: Well I haven't been able to find anything anywhere!
M: I understand that ma'am, pretty much all of Central Florida is sold out right now, due to it being Valentines Day weekend, and the Daytona 500 that is happening tomorrow.
SL: Do you have any suggestions?
M: Your best bet now is to try the mom and pop hotels, one's that you don't find online. Those might still have some rooms.
SL: Well if I can't find a room can I come and pay you to stay in your lobby?
M: (WTF no?) Unfortunately I can't allow that due to safety concerns.
SL: Well thanks for nothing. I shouldn't have even bothered to come here.
She then proceeds to attempt to slam my lobby door, and spins her tires all the way out of my hotel lot. Seriously lady I told you I had no rooms over the phone, yet you still came and expected some to magically appear in the 5 minutes it took you to get here?
If any of you are in Central FL tonight, I hope you don't have to deal with too many crazy people, and I hope you don't get tired of saying "Sorry I'm all sold out"

Some Key Features of SBOBET

SBOBET gives a bonus to high betting clients. This bookie returns 15% of the first deposit after a 12x turnover.

This Asian bookmaker allows us to choose how much we want to bet on an event or how much we want to win. For example, On the one hand, we can say we are going to bet 5 euros, and according to the odd, they indicate us the profits (just like every bookmaker).

Extra place strategies are worth looking at (on Heads&Heads Training).

Every Cheltenham offer will be posted on the Reload section (on Heads&Heads). It is also worth keeping up to date with the Cheltenham Forum thread (on Heads&Heads) – here the best offers of the day will be discussed.
If you are interested in giving matched betting a go or Heads&Heads a go I’ve posted a discount code below. As I mentioned at the start of the guide, you can either use it or not. The main thing for me will be people find one or two useful bits of info in this guide.

How to Get a Sugar Daddy in Final Fantasy XIV (aka the ultimate GCBTW member).

This guide will take you through a step-by-step process in-order to give you a sugar daddy in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. This guide works for both gay males and straight females on males only. I don't believe in the urban legends of the sugar momma.
Rate up the guide if you enjoy. Or don't and stay sugarless forever.
Okay I thought Steam Support removed this guide near the end of March due to "spam" but now I see it's back even though they said the decision was final. I'm not complaining though. Enjoy.
Introduction Welcome to my guide, and like my guide description says, I will be taking you through a step-by-step process to help you obtain a sugar daddy in Final Fantasy XIV. Please note, this guide works for only sugar daddies regardless if you're a male or female and regardless of sexual orientation. I don't know the steps to obtaining a sugar momma because I'm sadly a homosexual.
I have been playing Final Fantasy XIV since 2015, don't let my steam game hours fool you, I have twice the hours if not more. I have had three sugar daddies throughout my run of the game so far, let me show you my secrets. I have recieved from what I can recall, Heavensward Expansion DLC, at least 20 million in GIL, helped me level my crafters up and much more from these sugar daddies. So I'm well experienced with them in this game. I've also had sugar daddies in MMORPGs such as Digimon Masters Online, Maplestory and Elder Scrolls Online.
Step #1: Finding a Good Server To begin, I recommend you create a new character or transfer your current character to a more popular server if you're not currently playing on one. You can check to see the current list of most popular servers using the XIV Census featured below.
Click the image for better quality!
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/929315483343274851/DA148076A46AF1EAB288CE391B710988B86414DC/
This is from the XIVCensus for June 2018. Depending on how long ago this guide was made when you're viewing/reading it, it may have changed. Feel free to visit https://ffxivcensus.com to see what is currently the most populated servers at the time of your viewing.
The reason you'll want to play on these servers is because there are a wider variety of players to be your possible sugar daddy. On a side note, when making or transferring in I would recommend having a "cute" name or a typical name. An example being, to have something like "Rose" in your name. Don't name yourself after another final fantasy character, an anime character or commonly known 3rd-party video game character as everyone sees your username and thinks you're an idiot. (he is right you know) If you're transferring in and want to change your name for free, pre-make a character on that server with your current character's name, therefore the game will force you to change your transferring-in character's name when you transfer to the server.
It also helps if you main a healer class as the vast majority of potential sugar daddies main DPS or Tank classes and are often looking for healers to queue with to get into dungeons quicker.
Step #2: Finding a Free Company and Networking Once you make or transfer your character in, try to find a free company to join that's well populated and has at minimum 20 to 30 people online during midday. Go to a place like Gridania and examine the free companies of players you see all around you to find a suitable free company fast. In the most popular servers, this is usually very easy to find. Once you find a company, make friends with everyone and always try to involve yourself in everything your free company has to offer in-order to get everyone in the free company to like you. Try to figure out who the experienced and gil heavy players in the free company are. This is easy to do just by looking at their profile information or just flat out asking casually how much gil they have. Friend request all possible people you can see as potential sugar daddies. Add them before they add you, doing this shows to them that you 'like' them. Keep in mind, this guide is assuming you don't actually want a relationship to come from this and just want to trick people into boosting you. If you do want a relationship to come from this by all means you do you, this guide should still be able to help you, but I would give your own personal flare, if that makes sense.
Step #3: Getting Those Potential Sugar Daddies to Notice You Now that you've spotted your potential sugar daddies there are many things you can do to get them to notice you and to like you back.
Some examples of things you can do are: - Casually ask them if they want to party for roulettes (this works better the higher level you are, also works better if you're a healer class (for girls or twinky gays) or a tank class (for straight guys) - Ask if they can help craft something for you, or if they can help with a crafter leves to level your crafting classes - Befriend them on Steam or Discord (Steam recommended) and try to have a conversation with them at least once a day to establish a "connection" - Talk about how there's a glamour item you really want but don't have the money to purchase it (if they buy it for you it shows they like you)
There are many other things you can probably do to get their attention, but always try to be casual about it, don't just directly say "BUY ME THIS THANKS" you have to be 'polite' about it.
Keep repeating these activities, if you find someone constantly wanting to buy you things in-game, talk to you 24/7, etc., you just found yourself a sugar daddy. I would recommend finding 2 backup sugar daddies just encase this one flops.
Step #4: What is Your End Goal?
At this point, hopefully you have found a few potential sugar daddies, however it would be wise to pick one and just completely friend-zone the others to avoid the potential hazard of all these sugar daddies finding out about each-other. If you decide to keep them all conflict may come from it, and the worst scenario would be that they all dump you and ruin your reputation by blogging about it on Reddit or something. If you're a risk-taker feel free to keep them all, there's the possibility of it working out swimmingly. I've never tried personally, but go for it.
In addition, at this point hopefully some of these potential sugar daddies have blessed you with wonderful gifts you've asked for, helped you level your crafters and gatherers, gave you armor for classes you're leveling up or just flat out give you gil or money to buy expansions. However, there's something you need to start thinking about, and that is: "What is my end goal here?"
When you ask yourself this, you're really asking: "When will they become useless to me?" and it really depends. This guide is really going off just in-game sugar daddy activities, but if you are one of the few who want to take it a step further, you could branch out with them into other games or specifically other MMORPGs. For the sake of Final Fantasy XIV however, they really become useless after all of your crafters are leveled, you basically have 100mil in Gil, already have a giant house that's fully furnished, and you have all the current expansions. Unless you transfered in your current character and already had a decent amount of progress completed on your character, this will take awhile to get to, but it will eventually come.
Coming to mind, the only real thing that would require them to stay at this point, is if they flat out just pay your subscription for you every month or buy you future expansions or new MogStation items. Unless you wish to branch out with them into other games or platforms. The decision is yours in the end, do what you wanna do. Keep in mind, if you wish to outsource to other games with them, they will think you want to go deeper in a relationship. They might attempt to voice chat with you/video chat, and if you're pretending to be the sex you aren't, all I can say is good luck. Make sure you think out the gameplay.
Conclusion
I hope this guide aids you in your search to find someone to basically handicap you through the game. I am living proof this works as I have done this to a past Final Fantasy XIV streamer, now YouTuber who bought me the Heavensward DLC and 10 million GIL, plus additional items. If I ever come back to Final Fantasy XIV you can bet I'm finding someone to buy me the Stormblood DLC.
Thank you for reading and allowing me to educate you on how to manipulate people into liking you and buying you pretty things in the game Final Fantasy XIV. Have a blessed day and game on.
editor's note: Not a single word was changed KEK.

Extra place strategies are worth looking at (on Heads&Heads Training).

Every Cheltenham offer will be posted on the Reload section (on Heads&Heads). It is also worth keeping up to date with the Cheltenham Forum thread (on Heads&Heads) – here the best offers of the day will be discussed.

Biden Opposition Research compiled by the DNC part 1

New Yorker: Vice President Biden “Has Been A Strident Voice Of Skepticism About The Use Of American Force.” “Since entering the Administration, Biden has been a strident voice of skepticism about the use of American force. At times, that put him on the opposite side of debates from others in the Administration, including Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta, Obama’s first C.I.A. director. Biden opposed intervention in Libya (as did Defense Secretary Robert Gates), arguing that the fall of Muammar Qaddafi would result in chaos; Biden warned the President against the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]
New Yorker: Vice President Biden “Voted Against The Gulf War…Advocated NATO Air Strikes In The Balkans In 1993” And “Voted For The War” In Iraq in 2002. “When he was in the Senate, Biden was a centrist Democrat who called on his party, at times, to back diplomacy with force. Though he voted against the Gulf War, in 1991, he advocated NATO air strikes in the Balkans in 1993 to stop the Serbian slaughter of Bosnians. In the run-up to the war in Iraq, in 2002, he pushed a resolution that would have allowed Bush to remove weapons of mass destruction in Iraq but not to remove Saddam Hussein. The resolution failed, and Biden voted for the war, a decision he regrets.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]
Vice President Biden: “Bob Gates Has Been Wrong About Everything.” “I asked what he made of Gates’s specific criticisms. He called Gates “a really decent guy” and then unloaded on him: ‘Bob Gates is a Republican, with a view of foreign policy that is, in many fundamental ways, different from mine. Bob Gates has been wrong about everything! Bob Gates is wrong about the advice he gave President Reagan about how to deal with Gorbachev! That he wasn’t real. Thank God the President didn’t listen to him. Bob Gates was wrong about the Balkans. Bob Gates was wrong about the bombing. Bob Gates was wrong about the Vietnam War, for Christ’s sake. You go back, and everything in the last forty years, there’s nothing that I can think of, major fundamental decisions relative to foreign policy, that I can think he’s been right about!’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

CONTRAST WITH OTHER DEMOCRATS

CONTRAST WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA

Foreign Policy Editor David Rothkopf: “Even When There Were Differences Of Opinion, Biden Was Seen As Being Loyal And Supportive Of The President.” In a New Yorker profile of Vice President Biden, Rothkopf said: “While Biden has been a strong voice on foreign policy, it has never been asserted, as it was about Cheney, that he was trying to advance his own agenda. Even when there were differences of opinion, Biden was seen as being loyal and supportive of the President.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

CONTRAST WITH SECRETARY CLINTON

Wall Street Journal’s William Galston: Vice President Biden “Is Well-Positioned To Wage A Left-Leaning Campaign On Foreign Policy.” “Mr. Biden is well-positioned to wage a left-leaning campaign on foreign policy as well as economic issues. Although he voted for the Iraq-war authorization in 2002, he argued vehemently against the Bush administration’s surge in 2007, proposing instead the quasi-partition of Iraq into autonomous Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite zones. As vice president, he argued just as hard against Gen. David Petraeus’s proposal (backed by then-Secretary of State Clinton) for a massive military surge and nation-building policy in Afghanistan.” [William Galston column, Wall Street Journal, 7/23/14]

IRAN

COMMENTS MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN

Wall Street Journal’s William Galston: Vice President Biden “Has Taken U.S. Military Action Against Iran Off The Table.” “[Vice President Biden] has taken U.S. military action against Iran off the table, declaring that ‘war with Iran is not just a bad option. It would be a disaster.’” [William Galston column, Wall Street Journal, 7/23/14]

CRITICISM OF IRAN POLICY

New Yorker: Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates “Echoed A Conservative Talking Point Produced For The 2008 Presidential Campaign” To Attack Vice President Biden. “In referring to Biden’s errors over ‘four decades,’ Gates echoed a conservative talking point produced for the 2008 Presidential campaign, when commentators sought to counter criticism of Sarah Palin’s inexperience in foreign affairs.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

DEFENSE OF IRAN POLICY

Washington Post Fact Checker: Bob Gates Claimed That Vice President Biden Supported The Fall Of The Shah Of Iran In 1979, But “No Evidence Can Be Found To Support This Statement." “BOB GATES: ‘He said that when the Shah fell in Iran in 1979, that that was a step forward for progress toward human rights in Iran.’ FACT CHECKER: No evidence can be found to support this statement, at least in news clips at the time and copies of the congressional record that we examined. Our colleagues at PolitiFact, who had earlier this year examined Gates’ claims, located a reference to the statement in a 2008 opinion article published in The New York Post by Amir Taheri, an Iranian-born conservative writer; we also found a similar statement made by Taheri in 2008 Forbes column. He did not respond to e-mail queries to provide evidence for his claim, so at this point we have to rate this as doubtful.” [Fact Checker, Washington Post, 7/22/14]

ISRAEL

DEFENSE OF ISRAEL POLICY

U.S. Ambassador To Israel Ron Dermer: Biden Presented “The Single Most Succinct Understanding Of Israeli Political Reality Of Any Other Statement That I’ve Heard.” “On a visit in 2011, Biden quoted his father saying, ‘There’s no sense dying on a small cross’—to urge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take a larger step toward peace in the Middle East. Ron Dermer, the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., said, ‘We’re in Jerusalem, we’ve got a Catholic Vice-President, we’ve got a Jewish Prime Minister, and he’s telling him, ‘There’s no sense dying on a small cross.’ The Prime Minister starting laughing, and, I have to tell you, it is the single most succinct understanding of Israeli political reality of any other statement that I’ve heard.’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

RUSSIA

COMMENTS ON PUTIN

New Yorker: Vice President Biden Said To Russian President Vladimir Putin, “I’m Looking Into Your Eyes, And I Don’t Think You Have A Soul.” “‘As I turned, I was this close to him.’ Biden held his hand a few inches from his nose. ‘I said, ‘Mr. Prime Minister, I’m looking into your eyes, and I don’t think you have a soul.’’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

IRAQ

RELATIONSHIP WITH ABADI

Associated Press: Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi Assured Biden Of “His Intent To Quickly Form A New Government That is Inclusive Of All Segments Of Iraqi Society And…Address The Concerns Of All Of Iraq’s Communities.” “Biden and al-Abadi discussed military action against Islamic State and the importance of forming a new government in the fight against the terror group that has seized large areas of Iraq and Syria. Abadi reassured Biden of his intent to quickly form a new government that is inclusive of all segments of Iraqi society and that he is prepared to take concrete steps to addresses the concerns of all of Iraq's communities.” [Associated Press, 8/25/14]

RELATIONSHIP WITH MALIKI

Vice President Biden In 2010: “I’ll Bet You My Vice Presidency Maliki Will Extend The [Status Of Armed Forces Agreement].” Michael R. Gordon and retired Lieutenant General Bernard E. Trainor, in their book “The Endgame: The Inside Story of the Struggle for Iraq, from George W. Bush to Barack Obama,” described a video conference in October, 2010, in which Biden predicted that Maliki would sign on to a Status of Forces Agreement to keep U.S. troops on the ground. “Maliki wants us to stick around because he does not see a future in Iraq otherwise,” Biden said, according to the account. “I’ll bet you my vice presidency Maliki will extend the SOFA.” [New Yorker, 8/12/14]
USA Today: Vice President Biden’s “Phone Calls To Foreign Leaders…Spiked” In 2014, As His Portfolio “Includes Iraq, Ukraine And—Increasingly—Turkey.” In an article about phone calls from the White House to foreign leaders during crises, USA Today reported: “Records also show how some nations rise and fall in importance and the evolving division of labor between Obama and his vice president, Joe Biden, whose phone calls to foreign leaders have also spiked this year. While Obama speaks most often with the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, France and Russia, Biden's portfolio includes Iraq, Ukraine and — increasingly — Turkey.” [USA Today, 7/28/14]
President Obama “Has Largely Delegated [Iraq] Conversations To Biden,” Making Four Disclosed Calls To Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki Compared To Vice President Biden’s 64. “[Duke professor and former national security staffer Peter] Feaver said Obama has ‘downgraded’ some key relationships, leaving them to Biden or the State Department. Bush had weekly video teleconferences with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, but Obama has largely delegated those conversations to Biden. The White House has disclosed four calls that Obama has made to Iraq during his presidency. Biden has made 64, partly because the vice president usually checks in with three different sectarian leaders in each round of calls: al-Maliki, Speaker of the Council of Representatives Salim al-Jabouri and Kurdish Regional President Masoud Barzani.” [USA Today, 7/28/14]

CRITICISM FOR RELATIONSHIP WITH MALIKI

New Yorker’s Evan Osnos: Biden “Embraced” Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki Despite Fears That Maliki “Was Alienating Sunnis And Stoking The Return Of Open Sectarian Conflict.” In an article about Vice President Biden’s relationship with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Evan Osnos of the New Yorker wrote: “Biden embraced the figure he decided was most likely to keep the country together, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, despite growing complaints from U.S. diplomats and advisers that Maliki was becoming a strongman who was alienating Sunnis and stoking the return of open sectarian conflict. Emma Sky, who was the chief political adviser to General Raymond Odierno, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, told me, ‘The White House became impatient,’ and that Biden decided that the best route ‘was to support Maliki as Prime Minister—and pressure and persuade the others to agree to this.’” [New Yorker, 8/12/14]
New Yorker: Vice President Biden “Considered Maliki The Only Viable Option” In Iraq, But His “Confidence In Maliki Proved Misplaced.” Despite growing concern among American diplomats and allies in the region that the Iraqi Prime Minister was an increasingly sectarian and despotic figure, Biden considered Maliki the only viable option, and was confident that he would allow a contingent of U.S. forces to stay…But Biden’s confidence in Maliki proved misplaced. In 2011, Maliki refused to ask his parliament for immunity for American troops, and the U.S. ended the effort to leave forces in Iraq. In December, Biden visited Baghdad to mark the American withdrawal. He called Obama and thanked him ‘for giving me the chance to end this goddam war.’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]
New Yorker: “Some Have Criticized The Administration For Investing So Much In Maliki, Or For Not Pushing Harder To Leave A Force That Might Have…Checked Maliki’s Sectarian Project.” “His certainty is not universally shared. Though few American commanders or diplomats lament the end of a gruelling U.S. occupation, some have criticized the Administration for investing so much in Maliki, or for not pushing harder to leave a force that might have preserved American influence and checked Maliki’s sectarian project. Biden once believed that a stable, representative government in Baghdad was ‘going to be one of the great achievements of this Administration,’ as he said on CNN in 2010. His optimism has waned.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

FEDERALISM IN IRAQ

COMMENTS FROM VP BIDEN ON FEDERALISM IN IRAQ

Vice President Biden: Iraq’s Security Depends “On Addressing The Alienation That Fuels Extremist Movements And Convincing Iraqis That Their Needs Can Be Met Through The Political Process Rather Than Through Violence.” In an op-ed on Iraqi stability and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant appearing in the Washington Post, Vice President Joe Biden wrote: “There is no negotiating with ISIL. We have seen its appalling murders of U.S. journalist James Foley and countless other innocent people, its cruelty and its fanaticism. But even if there were no ISIL, Iraq’s survival would still depend on the ability of Iraqis to set aside their differences and unite in a common effort. Iraq’s security would still depend on addressing the alienation that fuels extremist movements and convincing Iraqis that their needs can be met through the political process rather than through violence.” [Joe Biden op-ed, Washington Post, 8/22/14]
Vice President Biden: The U.S. Would Offer Training And Assistance To Support The Establishment Of “Functioning Federalism” As The Governing Model For Iraq. In an op-ed on Iraqi stability and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant appearing in the Washington Post, Vice President Joe Biden wrote: “Another approach that is emerging is a ‘functioning federalism’ under the Iraqi constitution, which would ensure equitable revenue-sharing for all provinces and establish locally rooted security structures, such as a national guard, to protect the population in cities and towns and deny space for ISIL while protecting Iraq’s territorial integrity. The United States would be prepared to offer training and other forms of assistance under our Strategic Framework Agreement to help such a model succeed.” [Joe Biden op-ed, Washington Post, 8/22/14]
Then-Senator Biden: The Best Way Forward In Iraq Would Be To “Maintain A United Iraq By Decentralizing It, Giving Each Ethno-Religious Group…Room To Run Its Own Affairs.” In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: The idea, as in Bosnia, is to maintain a united Iraq by decentralizing it, giving each ethno-religious group — Kurd, Sunni Arab and Shiite Arab — room to run its own affairs, while leaving the central government in charge of common interests.” [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]
Then-Senator Biden: Iraq Should “Establish Three Largely Autonomous Regions” Which “Would Each be Responsible For Their Own Domestic Laws, Administration, And Internal Security.” In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: “The first [step] is to establish three largely autonomous regions with a viable central government in Baghdad. The Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite regions would each be responsible for their own domestic laws, administration and internal security. The central government would control border defense, foreign affairs and oil revenues. Baghdad would become a federal zone, while densely populated areas of mixed populations would receive both multisectarian and international police protection.” [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]
Then-Senator Biden: The Iraqi “Constitution Must Be Amended To Guarantee Sunni Areas 20 Percent (Approximately Their Proportion Of The Population) Of All Revenues” From The Central Government. In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: “The second element would be to entice the Sunnis into joining the federal system with an offer they couldn't refuse. To begin with, running their own region should be far preferable to the alternatives: being dominated by Kurds and Shiites in a central government or being the main victims of a civil war. But they also have to be given money to make their oil-poor region viable. The Constitution must be amended to guarantee Sunni areas 20 percent (approximately their proportion of the population) of all revenues. [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]
Then-Senator Biden: The U.S. Should Increase American Aid To Iraq But Condition That Aid On “Protection Of The Rights Of Women And Ethno-Religious Minorities.” In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: The third component would be to ensure the protection of the rights of women and ethno-religious minorities by increasing American aid to Iraq but tying it to respect for those rights. Such protections will be difficult, especially in the Shiite-controlled south, but Washington has to be clear that widespread violations will stop the cash flow. [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]
Then-Senator Biden: “[A] Substantial Long-Term American Military Presence” In Iraq “Would Do Terrible Damage To Our Armed Forces, Break American And Iraqi Public Support For The Mission And Leave Iraqis Without Any Incentive To Shape Up.” In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: Fourth, the president must direct the military to design a plan for withdrawing and redeploying our troops from Iraq by 2008 (while providing for a small but effective residual force to combat terrorists and keep the neighbors honest). We must avoid a precipitous withdrawal that would lead to a national meltdown , but we also can't have a substantial long-term American military presence. That would do terrible damage to our armed forces, break American and Iraqi public support for the mission and leave Iraqis without any incentive to shape up. [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]
Then-Senator Biden: “Under An International Or United Nations Umbrella, We Should Convene A Regional Conference To Pledge Respect For Iraq's Borders And Its Federal System.” In a 2006 op-ed for the New York Times with Leslie Gelb about the best way forward in Iraq, then-Senator Biden wrote: “Fifth, under an international or United Nations umbrella, we should convene a regional conference to pledge respect for Iraq's borders and its federal system. For all that Iraq's neighbors might gain by picking at its pieces, each faces the greater danger of a regional war. A "contact group" of major powers would be set up to lean on neighbors to comply with the deal.” [Joe Biden op-ed, New York Times, 5/1/06]

CRITICISM FOR FEDERALISM COMMENTS FROM PUNDITS

New Yorker: In 2006, Biden’s Plan For Partitioning Iraq Received “Almost All Negative” Attention, With Commentators Saying It Could Lead To “Disintegration” Or “Ethnic Cleansing.” Referencing then-Senator Biden and former New York Times foreign affairs correspondent Leslie Gelb in 2006, the New Yorker reported: “They hatched an idea for a federal system incorporating three semi-autonomous regions, for Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds, based partly on Biden’s experience with the division of Bosnia. They published the idea in an Op-Ed in the Times in May, 2006. ‘It got a lot of attention—almost all negative,’ Gelb recalled. Foreign-policy commentators said that it would lead Iraq to disintegration, or, worse, ethnic cleansing.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

DEFENSE OF FEDERALISM COMMENTS FROM PUNDITS

Al-Monitor On Then-Senator Biden’s 2006 Plan For Regional Autonomy In Iraq: “Today, The Point Iraq Has Reached And The Debate In Washington On Iraq Have Vindicated Biden.” “Today, the point Iraq has reached and the debate in Washington on Iraq have vindicated Biden. Just as Biden said, the basic issue of Iraq is not terror organizations but the sectarian conflict and consequent social, political and economic questions that make the country a fertile ground for terror organizations. These are not questions that can be solved by American soldiers and solely by the United States, as Biden said. [Al-Monitor, 8/21/14]
Brookings Institution Expert Michael O’Hanlon On Biden’s Partition Plan: “It’s Not A Crazy Idea, It Never Was Crazy, And It May Still Be A Necessary Fallback.” “‘I watched this with great interest to see how Joe would react,’ Gelb said. ‘Because, under that kind of pressure, with everybody telling you, ‘You’re wrong,’ politicians just run for the hills. He never did at all. Not one iota.’ (I asked Michael O’Hanlon, a foreign-policy expert at the Brookings Institution, his view of the proposed federal system. He said, ‘It’s not a crazy idea, it never was crazy, and it may still be a necessary fallback.’)” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]
Politico: Vice President Biden’s “Judgment On Iraq’s Capacity To Stay United Now Looks Almost Prescient.” While Biden may have taken a beating repeatedly in recent years for some foreign policy calls he’s made, his judgment on Iraq’s capacity to stay united now looks almost prescient.” [Politico, 6/13/14]

WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ

COMMENTS ON WITHDRAWL FROM IRAQ

Vice President Biden: Because Iraqi Leaders Didn’t Resolve “How The Hell They’re Gonna Live Together…It Wouldn’t Have Mattered If We Stayed There.” “[N]otwithstanding all of the hundreds of hours I and others spent with each of their leaders, they didn’t resolve a core problem of how the hell they’re gonna live together. And it wouldn’t have mattered if we stayed there.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

TRUSTWORTHINESS

PLAGIARISM

New Yorker: Vice President Biden Has A “Record Of Exaggerations And Plagiarism” And “The Costs Of That Weakness Have Been Steep.” Looking over the record of his exaggerations and plagiarism, I came to see them as the excesses of a man who wants every story to sing, even at the risk of embarrassment. The costs of that weakness have been steep, but Biden has only fitfully acknowledged them. When he announced his withdrawal from the Presidential race in 1987, he conceded his mistakes but also cast blame on ‘the environment of Presidential politics that makes it so difficult to let the American people measure the whole Joe Biden and not just misstatements that I have made.’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

CLARENCE THOMAS NOMINATION HEARINGS

CRITICISM FROM LIBERALS

New Yorker: “Biden Enraged Liberal Supporters” During Thomas Nomination Hearings By Shielding Thomas From Testimony Corroborating Sexual Harassment. “In 1991, Biden ran the hearings on Clarence Thomas’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Biden enraged liberal supporters by not allowing the testimony of women who might have buttressed Anita Hill’s accusations of sexual harassment. Though Biden ultimately voted against him, Thomas won by a narrow margin, fifty-two to forty-eight. Biden, who omitted the Thomas hearings from his memoir, told Jane Mayer and Jill Abramson, for their book on the hearing, ‘Strange Justice,’ that he had acted in ‘fairness to Thomas, which in retrospect he didn’t deserve.’” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

New Yorker: “Biden Objected To An Administration Plan To Require Catholic Hospitals And Other Institutions To Cover Contraceptives.” “In 2011, Biden objected to an Administration plan to require Catholic hospitals and other institutions to cover contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act, saying that it would cost them working-class votes.” [New Yorker, 7/28/14]

VOTING RIGHTS

COMMENTS ON VOTER SUPRESSION

Vice President Biden: “Moves To Limit The Right To Vote Are…Pure Politics, Masquerading As Attempts To Combat Corruption.” "These moves to limit the right to vote are nothing more than pure politics, masquerading as attempts to combat corruption where there is none.” [AP, 7/23/14]
Vice President Biden:The Supreme Court Has Focused “On The Right Of Wealthy Individuals To Contribute Unlimited Sums Of Money In The Name Of Free Speech” Instead Of “Protecting The Right Of An Elderly Veteran…[To] Speak At The Ballot Box.” “In the past few years, the Supreme Court decisions have seemed to focus more on the right of wealthy individuals to contribute unlimited sums of money in the name of free speech rather than on protecting the right of an elderly veteran to exercise his ultimate right speak through the ballot box.” [Speech, NAACP Convention, 7/23/14]
Vice President Biden to NAACP: “This Is Not Your Father’s Republican Party.” “And we had five decades, five decades of bipartisan action. Democrats, Republicans, governors, senators, congressman. Five decades of making it easier for Americans to vote. The 1965 Voting Rights Act; in 1971, the 26th Amendment expanding the voting rights of people 18-21. 1984, the Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act, which guaranteed access to federal elections for the disabled. 1990, a joint effort led by Republicans to see to it that we expanded the act further to guarantee that all elections were available. 1993, the Voting Right Registration Act, referred to as the Motor Voter Act, which gave us the right to register when we had our automobiles inspected. 2002, the Help America Act, which passed 357-48 in the House and 92-2 in the Senate after the debacle in Florida. But those days appear to be over. This is not your father’s Republican Party.”
· Vice President Biden: “We Are In A Hailstorm Of New Attempts By States And Localities To Limit Ballot Access.” “We are in a hailstorm of new attempts by states and localities to limit ballot access without the full protection of the law… Laws modeled after one in NC, which imposed a new photo ID requirement, shortened early voting, and eliminated same-day registration for early voting. Laws like the one in OH and WI, which shortened the early voting period and limited the time polls would be open, cutting evening hours and eliminating most weekend early voting. These were laws passed by Democrats and Republicans.” [Speech, NAACP Convention, 7/23/14]

EFFORTS TO DISENFRANCHISE AFRICAN AMERICANS

HEADLINE: “How Joe Biden Is Trying To Bring Black Voters To The Polls.” [National Journal, 7/23/14]
vice President Biden: “Seven Out Of 10 States With The Highest African American Turnout In 2008 Have Since Passed Laws To Restrict The Vote.” Seven out of 10 states with the highest African American turnout in 2008 have since passed laws to restrict the vote; nine out of the 12 states with highest Hispanic populations in America have passed laws to restrict the vote. Thirteen states have introduced bills to make it harder to register to vote—the very issue that sparked Bloody Sunday in Selma 49 years ago. We crossed that bridge. We can’t go back. We cannot go back.” [Speech, NAACP Convention, 7/23/14]
· Vice President Biden: Fighting Back Against Voting Restrictions Is “About The Right Of The American People To Choose Who They Want To Be Their Leaders.” It’s not about Barack and me—it’s about the people’s right to speak. Let me give you the example. President Obama and I won the state of Florida by 73,000 votes, and in Florida, we won the African American vote by a margin of 1,125,000. Here’s what that means—I want you to think about this so you don’t think I’m just reliving old fights of the past. That means that if only 6% of those African American voters in Florida who voted were prevented from casting their ballots because of changes in polling places, requirements for IDs, etc. If only 6% had not voted, we would have lost Florida. We would have lost Florida…The election could have been different in result than it was. Again, it’s not about Barack and me, it’s about the right of the American people to choose who they want to be their leaders.” [Speech, NAACP Convention, 7/23/14]

WEEKEND AND EARLY VOTING

Vice President Biden To NAACP: Restrictions On Early Voting And Weekend Voting Mean That “You Can’t Vote After Church” And You May Need “To Travel 25 Miles To Vote On Election Day.” “That means you can’t vote after church. That means women who take two buses to get to work in Cleveland have to take off time from work or choose between caring for her children and voting for her future. Grandmothers in Alabama, who came up under Jim Crow. Many of whom don’t have a car or a license, are being stripped of their vote unless they can make a 10 mile journey to a state ID office. Many of which are only open twice a week. Athens, GA is considering eliminating half of its polling places, replacing them with two early voting centers inside police stations. Baker Co, GA, which is predominantly African American and high poverty, is considering eliminating 4 of its 5 polling places, requiring voters to travel 25 miles to vote on election day.” [Speech, NAACP Convention, 7/23/14]

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

COMMENTS ON WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Vice President Biden: “The Free Enterprise System” Will Help Us Develop “The Most Sophisticated Workforce In The World” But Federal And State Governments Can “Connect The Dots.” In an article about Vice President Biden’s visit to Goodwin College in Connecticut to highlight workforce development programs, the Hartford Courant wrote: “‘We can, we can, we can have the most educated, the most sophisticated workforce in the world,’ Biden said. ‘The federal government's not going to do this, the state government's not going to do this. It's the free enterprise system. But what we can do is connect the dots.’” [Hartford Courant, 8/20/14]

ROLE IN SHAPING PROGRAMS UNDER OBAMA

HEADLINE: “Congress And Biden Aim For Job Training That Actually Leads To Jobs” [National Public Radio, 7/23/14]
National Public Radio: President Obama Signed The Workforce Innovation And Opportunity Act, Which “Streamlines And Updates The Nation’s Job Training Programs.” “Something pretty remarkable happened Tuesday afternoon in a small windowless auditorium next door to the White House. President Obama signed a new law: the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. It streamlines and updates the nation's job training programs and was 11 years overdue. The bill got overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.” [National Public Radio, 7/23/14]
· National Public Radio: The Act Aims To “Better [Match] Training To Employer Needs” And “Encourages More Apprenticeships And On-The Job Training.” “When an unemployed or dissatisfied worker seeks out job training through a government program, the hope is to get a new job in a field where workers are in demand. But the nation's workforce development system hasn't always succeeded in matching the training with the work. The act aims to fix that by better matching training to employer needs. It encourages more apprenticeships and on-the-job training. The measure of success will no longer be just how many people sign up for help, but also how many actually get jobs.” [National Public Radio, 7/23/14]
National Public Radio: Vice President Biden Spent Time “Traveling Around The Country” To Witness Training Programs, And “White House Officials Say Biden’s Work Gives The Administration A Head Start In Implementing The Act.” At the same time Congress was working out the details of the bill, Vice President Joe Biden was traveling around the country, looking at what works and what doesn't. Back in March, he visited New Hampshire, where an innovative on-the-job training program has helped nearly 700 people get new jobs since 2010. There he stopped at XMA Corp., a small manufacturer that has hired about a half-dozen people so far using the program…‘So it really is connecting an individual with an opening and the skill required to fill that opening," [Biden] said. "It's that basic, but it's hundreds of thousands of jobs available.’ That's exactly what the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act aims to do, and White House officials say Biden's work gives the administration a head start in implementing the act.” [National Public Radio, 7/23/14]

INFRASTRUCTURE

COMMENTS ON INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT

HIGHWAY SPENDING BILL

Vice President Biden: Instead of Stopgap Funding Measures, “We Need A Fulsome Solution…To Highways And Highway Infrastructure.” After explaining the historical importance of transportation funding in a YouTube video, Vice President Biden “offered a starkly different perspective of the transportation funding debates in Congress today. He said lawmakers needed to think about the impact of underinvestment in infrastructure before they settle for temporary stopgap measures. ‘Businesses go where they can increase productivity,’ Biden said. ‘Productivity relates with how rapidly they can get things to market, how cheaply they can get to market, and how often they can get to market. That's infrastructure.’ Biden said he hoped lawmakers would approve the temporary transportation funding bill, but then give serious consideration to the Obama's administration's four-year, $302 billion proposal. ‘I know the Congress is in the process of coming up with a stopgap measure and how they're able to get it down,’ he said. ‘But in the meantime, we think we need a fulsome solution, at least it relates to highways and highway infrastructure.’” [The Hill, 7/23/14]
Vice President Biden: “We Have To Invest In Infrastructure” To Attract More Businesses. “We have to invest in infrastructure. Highways, airports, railroads, canals. Because businesses locate where they have easy access to get their materials to facilities, and where they can quickly and cheaply, in the fastest market, get their product to market. And they can’t do that without infrastructure.” [Speech, National Urban League, 7/24/14]
Vice President Biden Touted An American Society Of Engineers Estimate That “Between Now And 2020, American Infrastructure Needs An Additional Estimate Of $3.6 Trillion.” “The American Society of Engineers has done extensive studies. They said that between now and 2020, American infrastructure needs an additional investment of $3.6 trillion to meet our needs…and even if we do a portion of that, that means tens of thousands, millions of good paying jobs, jobs you can raise a family on, jobs you can live on.” [Speech, National Urban League, 7/24/14]

GAS TAX

COMMENTS SUPPORTING THE GAS TAX

The Hill: Vice President Biden “Ripped Congress For Passing Only A Short-Term Transportation Funding Extension, Saying, ‘Hell, Congress Can’t Even Decide On A Gas Tax To Keep The Highway System Going.’” “Vice President Biden on Wednesday ripped Congress for passing only a short-term transportation funding extension, but in doing so muddled the administration's position on the issue. ‘Hell, Congress can’t even decide on a gas tax to keep the highway system going,’ Biden said in remarks criticizing the Congress's inability to write policy.” [The Hill, 8/6/14]

CRITICISM FOR SUPPORT OF GAS TAX

The Hill: Vice President Biden “Appeared To Criticize Congress For Not Agreeing To A New Gas Tax To Pay For The Funding” For America’s Highway System, But “The [Obama] Administration Actually Opposes Raising The Tax.” “Biden's comments appeared to criticize Congress for not agreeing to a new gas tax to pay for the funding. The bill approved by Congress keeps the 18.4 cents-per-gallon rate that can't keep up anymore with highway spending. The administration actually opposes raising the tax, however. The Obama administration prefers to close corporate tax breaks to increase highway funding.” [The Hill, 8/6/14]
