Facts & Figures: Ontario Gambling Laws 2020

Sports betting legality/means in Ontario?

Not sure if this topic is allowed on this forum. So apologies in advance. I see lots of websites advertising on this topic. But the legal status of this is not very clear...it is supposed to differ by provinces.

Sports bettors in Ontario: is betting via the OLG completely useless?

I'm new to betting in Ontario and was surprised to see that there is actually a government option for betting. It seems it's limited to parlays, which is incredibly strange. I searched for Canadian threads on here and found people recommending Pinnacle or Bet365 but haven't seen any discussion of the OLG. Is it worth having in my repertoire of books? Any other recommendations besides Pinnacle and Bet365?

Cineplex (TSX: $CGX)
CINEPLEX INC (TSX: $CGX ) STOCK OPPORTUNITY
Another great medium risk but high potential return stock. The stock has taken a beating because of Covid19 & movie theater closures.
Investors think Cineworld's C$34/share buyout offer will be cancelled, yet Reuter's reported, "Cineworld Says No Change In Co's Position On Cineplex Takeover Since March" on April 7. That's double your money at C$11.69 (at post) if it goes through.
Investors also think Cineplex will cancel their monthly $0.15 per share dividend in their next ER that they delayed until June 29, 2020.
Investors are discounting Cineplex's possible rise of online movie rentals to offset their onsite losses.
The odds don't get better than this but do your Due Diligence before investing.

The Motley Fool described Cineplex as having a "virtual monopoly" over the cinema market in Canada.

2019-present: Proposed acquisition by Cineworld
On December 16, 2019, Cineplex announced a definitive agreement to be acquired by the British cinema operator Cineworld Group, the second-largest film exhibitor worldwide, pending shareholder and regulatory approval. Cineworld would be paying $34 per-share—a 42% premium over Cineplex's share price prior to the announcement, valuing the company at CDN$2.8 billion. Cineworld planned to pay US$1.65 billion, and to fund the remainder by taking on debt.
The sale was approved by Cineplex shareholders in February 2020. Activist shareholder Bluebell Capital Partners called for the Canadian government to block the sale, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. which in turn led to the temporary closure(s) of all Cineplex movie theatres across Canada since March 16, 2020, and up until further notice.

Newzoo: Global esports will top $1 billion in 2020, with China as the top market (Feb 25, 2020):
Global esports revenues will surpass $1 billion in 2020 for the first time — without counting broadcasting platform revenues, according to market researcher Newzoo.
Globally, the total esports audience will grow to 495.0 million people in 2020, Newzoo said. Esports Enthusiasts (people who watch more than once a month) make up 222.9 million of this number.
In 2020, $822.4 million in revenues—or three-quarters of the total market—will come from media rights and sponsorship.
“As the esports market matures, new monetization methods will be implemented and improved upon,” said Remer Rietkerk, head of esports at Newzoo, in the report. “Likewise, the number of local events, leagues, and media rights deals will increase; therefore, we anticipate the average revenue per fan to grow to $5.27 by 2023.”

PLAYDIUM
Playdium is a family entertainment centre chain owned by Cineplex Entertainment through its subsidiary Player One Amusement Group. The flagship location in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada launched as Sega City @ Playdium near Square One Shopping Centre on September 7, 1996. The 11 acres (480,000 sq ft) centre cost CA$17 million to build and included an arcade, batting cages, go-karts and mini-golf. A partnership with Sega GameWorks, it featured many arcade games from that company such as Daytona USA, and eight-player racing setups for Indy 500 (as Virtua Indy) and Manx TT Super Bike. Indy 500 remains available today. In 1999, the centre was renamed to Playdium. The company opened up two more locations in Brampton and Whitby in late 2019.

The Rec Room
The Rec Room is a Canadian chain of entertainment restaurants owned by Cineplex Entertainment. First opening in Edmonton in 2016, its locations feature entertainment and recreational attractions such as an arcade, driving simulators, recreational games, and virtual reality, as well as restaurants and bars, and an auditorium with a cinema-style screen, which can be used for concerts and other live events.
The Toronto location features The Void virtual reality attraction. In July 2018, Cineplex announced that it would become the exclusive Canadian franchisee of The Void and add additional locations (such as the Mississauga and West Edmonton Mall locations).

SCENE (loyalty program)
SCENE is a Canadian loyalty program established in 2007 by Cineplex Entertainment and Scotiabank.

FOOD & BEVERAGES
Cineplex has an Outtakes (French: Restoplex) restaurant in 94 theatres, some which replace previous restaurant partners (Burger King, KFC and New York Fries) and others which introduce restaurants at locations which did not previously feature one. VIP Cinemas and some Xscape locations feature a licensed lounge with more premium offerings compared to Outtakes. Poptopia is a flavoured popcorn restaurant offered in a full-service format at 22 locations. Other Cineplex theatres may feature Poptopia at the concession stand, but only in the caramel corn and/or kettle corn flavours.
Ice cream at Cineplex locations debuted with Baskin-Robbins and TCBY. Beginning in December 2007, Yogen Früz became the preferred partner. On January 1, 2014, Cineplex acquired a 50% stake in Yoyo's Yogurt Café. As of January 2017, 77 Cineplex theatres feature Yoyo's restaurants, while Yogen Fruz is still available in 23 Cineplex theatres while TCBY is available in 16 locations. Cineplex also manages Melt Sweet Creations, an in-house dessert bouqtiue brand targeted at women ages 19-35 debuted in December 2017 at Cineplex Cinemas Queensway and VIP. Melt is available at 13 locations.
Beverages are available in both cold and hot formats. Cold beverages include the Coca-Cola lineup, which replaced the Pepsi lineup used at locations formerly owned by Famous Players. 12 locations feature Coca-Cola Freestyle. Hot beverages include Starbucks as the incumbent provider with 105 locations, all which offer Pike Place Roast coffee (regular or decaf) and Tazo tea. Select locations also offer premium drinks such as caffè mocha or caramel macchiato. Tim Hortons is available as a full-service restaurant in five locations,[75] with Brossard being the only location to offer both Tim Hortons and Starbucks.
In most theatres, Cineplex offers sale of alcohol to 19+ guests in Ontario (18+ in Alberta) similar to the VIP theatres albeit from a selection of beer or cider beverages.
If Aurora Cannabis (ACB) & Cineplex (CGX) partnered up to offer CBD & THC infused Cannabis 2.0 edibles in movie theaters, especially the IMAX & 3D ones, it should do very well. Canadian Cannabis Industry stocks should also do well as I posted earlier Cannabis Stocks Opportunity.

Cineworld to buy Canada's largest movie theatre chain in $2.8B deal (Dec 16, 2019):
Cineplex’s stock had been trading close to the Cineworld offer price of C$34 per share through early 2020, but has since plunged 40% following the virus outbreak.
Cineplex could lose a potential lifeline if its outstanding debt exceeds more than $725 million. As of December 31, 2019, the debt level was $625 million. The debt might balloon past the threshold with a further lockdown extension.

Staggered seating, nostalgic films: Cinemark offers a look at movie going post-coronavirus (Apr 15, 2020):
Cinemark, the third-largest movie theater chain in the U.S., hopes to reopen at least some of its doors to the public in July.
With no major movie release until mid-July, theaters could play “library” movies, which are movies that have already previously been released in cinemas, for several weeks.
If social distancing restrictions are still in place the company said it would either sell every other reserved seat in the theater or suspend reservations and just sell 50% of the tickets per theater.
“Even at peak periods of time in a normal environment, our occupancy levels range from 20% to 30% and we can operate profitably during those scenarios...” - CEO Mark Zoradi
He added that Cinemark has seen attendance as low as 10% and still was able to turn a profit.

North Vancouver's Park & Tilford Cineplex permanently closed (May 20, 2020)
The company closed all 165 theatres across Canada in March due to COVID-19, but the 1,382-seat Brookesbank Avenue location won’t be among those reopening, Cineplex has confirmed.
With Cineplex closing its Lower Lonsdale theatre in 2019, it leaves Park Royal as the only place to catch a big screen flick on the North Shore.
“We thank the community for their patronage over the years, and look forward to welcoming them at neighbouring Cineplex Cinemas Park Royal and VIP,” said Sarah Van Lange, executive director of communications. “I’ll note that our intent is to repurpose the Park & Tilford theatre space, which we’ll have more details on at a later date.”

Alert: Cineplex (TSX:CGX) Could Be Acquired by This Incredibly Unlikely Source (May 12, 2020):
Despite Cineworld maintaining its commitment to buy Cineplex, the market has a different opinion. Remember, Cineplex agreed to be acquired at $34 per share. As I type this, the stock trades at $14.44. There’s no way the spread would be that wide, unless investors were writing off the acquisition completely.
Fortunately for beleaguered Cineplex shareholders, a new suitor could very well come along — one virtually nobody sees coming.
Although I think there’s potential for a private equity group or some other deep-pocketed investor taking a run at Cineplex’s cheap assets, there’s a much more interesting suitor on the horizon.
That acquirer is Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN).

AMC says it will no longer play Universal Studios films (Apr 28, 2020):
“AMC believes that with this proposed action to go to the home and theaters simultaneously, Universal is breaking the business model and dealings between our two companies,” AMC Chief Executive Officer Adam Aron said in a letter addressed to Universal Studios Chairman Donna Langley.
Universal added that the company looked forward to having “additional private conversations” with AMC but was “disappointed by this seemingly coordinated attempt ... to confuse our position and our actions.”

Cineworld joins AMC in banning films from Universal Studios (April 29, 2020):
Cineworld, the world’s second largest cinema chain, has followed its rival AMC in banning Universal Studios films from its cinemas when they reopen, after the Hollywood film-maker released Trolls On Tour direct to streaming platforms.
“There is a certain system of windows which are a custom in the market and this sets the time difference between the theatrical market and other ancillary markets, among them streaming. Any movie that will not respect this window will not be shown in Cineworld group,” Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld’s chief executive, said on Wednesday.

THE 65 MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF 2020 (May 20, 2020):

---------------------------------------------
CONCLUSION:
Nothing beats watching a great movie on the big screen in premium format:
  • Prime Seats
  • IMAX
  • UltraAVX
  • D-Box
  • VIP Cinemas
  • 4DX
I'm sick of the congested internet & buffering of online movies & services during Covid19. They need to upgrade the internet infrastructure to 5G & Fiber Optics before it can really grow in my opinion -- especially buffering 4K & 8K movies & future tech that will only require more bandwidth going forward.
Younger people are not afraid of Covid19 like the older crowd. When theaters open, they will rush in to see their favourite movies.
Betting that people won't want to go to movie theaters when they re-open, is like betting the same against live sporting events or music concerts.
No home movie theater can match a real movie theater, even the smaller discount ones, unless you're Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos etc.
With Cineplex's Canadian Monopoly & diversification into other entertainment arenas like eSports & Virtual Reality, as long as they don't go bankrupt & social distancing restrictions are loosened, the stock should increase 2 to 3 times by end of 2021 in my opinion -- especially if the Cineworld Buyout goes as planned or another company like Amazon buys them out for a strong presence & control in Canada.
If a Coronavirus Vaccine is discovered sooner than later, then this stock will rebound accordingly & rapidly -- especially if they don't cancel or even if they do, resume Dividend payments in the future. At current prices, Dividend yield is about 13% per year.
---------------------------------------------
Social distance cinema: drive-in theatres boom – in pictures (May 5, 2020):
We are all social creatures & want to go to movie theater as a social activity, to see & be seen; otherwise, why would Drive In Movie theaters boom during Covid19?
If no one goes out to be seen anymore, then all the Vanity Goods & Services will go under too & we will all dress in sweat pants & T-Shirt -- no need for designer suits & dresses working & staying at home. LOL ;p

---------------------------------------------
Internet Bandwidth Requirements:
Online streaming remains the biggest source of 4K content, led by Netflix and Amazon’s growing selection of original series. But many consumer broadband connections aren’t fast enough to allow reliable 4K streaming.
Home Theater Movie Resolutions:
  • 4K (UHD): 3,840 x 2,160 pixels
  • 1080p (Full HD): 1,920 x 1,080 pixels
  • 720p (HD): 1,280 x 720 pixels
  • 480p (SD): 640 x 480 pixels
  • 8K: 7,680 x 4,320 pixels
For comparison purposes, 70mm film - still considered by many to be the gold standard - is roughly equivalent to a 12K resolution in digital terms, so digital's still got some catching up to do on that score.

CRY FOR HELP

I will bet that You didn't know that Canada, the USA and indeed across the globe, at any second, at any moment, any one of us good citizens could you put on a secret list courtesy of extremely covert and well funded organized criminal gangs. Much of what you will read here will sound like the ravings of someone on a manic high. Thats fair enough, but, please keep this in mind, this is the most powerful tool these sadistic monsters have in their evil arsenal. They know they can divide and conquer with just that one tool. As a matter of fact, they can count on this "crazy card" every time, wth every crime and act of electronic Torture they committ. Anyone who tries to assert their human rights gets further labeled as "needing help" which effectively removes lawful help we all deseerve. These evil people get away with slowly poisoning good innocent people to death using their wide variety of almost impossible to detect directed energy weapons. As I type at this very moment, I feel sharp pains pop up in my back, feet, hands, head and heart. I could not even make this kind of nightmare up if I had tried. There is a family of electronic torturers and gang criminals above our apt bombarding both my wife and I with extremely dangerous cancer and heart attack causing radio waves. They easily convert old microwave ovens, stun guns, radar guns and others into these almost impossible to detect direct energy weapons. This family have also acted as Quasi Superintendents of this building for over 30 years. They, along with the landlords and owners have tried five times to evict my wife and I for literally no good reason. Each time they would drag us into an eviction hearing at the Landlord and Tenant Board of Ontario and each time they lost, thanks to our legal team at Aboriginal Legal Services here in Toronto.
Even with many months of compelling audio and video Evidence, the police would not listen to our claims, nor would they even watch or listen to our evidence. They took the gang families word that they were using a nail gun to replace the floors, which is true but, anyone with half a brain would laugh off those lies. The clicking electrical switch sounds that we recorded over the past several months were obviously not from a nail gun. As a matter of fact, when we called the police, the dispatcher was very supportive, that is until she ran my name! True I have a small criminal record with several theft under convictions from almost twenty years ago (all of which I pled guilty to) but this dispatcher went from caring to cold in just under two seconds. My gut, my knowledge and other covert moves of my own told me that i am on a very secret and very dirty terror watch list. For what, stealing books? Indeed, when police attended, three officers showed up and the six foot seven officer was sporting a shiny new taser gun, unbuckled. The irony was the senior officers attempt at covert twisted humour. I was never ever charged with any violent crime, so, perhaps someone would be able to tell me why the police would show up with this attitude and pre thought of preparation? The second the officers showed up, the senior officer immediayely began mocking me! The worst part of that day was the officers sharing a good laugh with the gang stalking family;at our expense? The officer also told me that I was a quote, unquote "nut.". Well see wont we?
GANG STALKING FAMILY BELONG TO A VAST GANG ORGANIZATION
I finally understand the truth, motivations and reasons behind most of these terrible mass shootings of people and police. Many of these shooters complained and pointed to Electronic torture and the methodical and certain destruction of their career, business and family for causing their ultimate decision to kill police and people. Noone will ever understand the hell these criminals put us through, that is until they themselves are put on this life destruction list. Not only are Targets designated to modern day, long, slow, painful and extremely lonely murder, but these organized stalkers and Electronic Torturers get off on slithering around lying about targets everywhere the target goes, shops, works, comducts business and the list goes on and on. These monsters do this to retired seniors, or, what I refer to as mentors. The more liked or creative a person is, the more they want to destroybtjeir lives. I totally understand a targets wanting revenge. Why not leave this backwards world cheerishing the looks on these perps faces when they realize it is their turn to feel fear, shock, disarray and incredible pain and uttet hopelessness that we Targeted Individuals feel every damn day at the hands of these twisted perp monsters hands.
The sad part of this gangs management is that most of them are very brilliant minds. They are highly intelligent managers but the dangerous gang members they hire on street level are just punk hackers and are laughingly referred to as "soldiers" by their own criminal organization. These soldiers gang up on unsuspecting citizens of our great Country and wear them down, first psychologically, using well proven fascist Stasi methods. These so called soldiers spread lies, mostly terrible damaging lies to neighbours and family, like they have with me. We good citizens are separated from the herd, bombarded with a variety of microwave and direct energy weapons until we go insane or fall ill or worse, fall to our death via a direct energy induced heart attack, stroke or other method made to look like a so calledb"natural death." These gangs upper mgmt arm their fellow perps with all kinds of hi tech tools, hardware, software and apps. The joke though, is also on these soldiers because they honestly and fully believe they are part of the new revolution and their leaders care about them! Nothing could be further from the truth. Retired former high level operatives have told me that amoung the most murders upper management order are their own soldiers who slack off or who make unplanned mistakes. If only all the soldiers could be told this one fact, all at the same time, with proof, that would be presto, no more soldiers tovtake all the risks, to make only $20 bucks an hour along disproportionate risk and prison time and soon, all the acts of extreme and violent and sudden revenge.
Let us not forget another covert fact that I was also told, that the cancer, blood radiation and a list of atleast eighteen other illnesses that almost always cause immediate and very painfull death, are not only untreatable but, are close to 2500% more prevalent and life ending amoungst the operators than to the victims on the receiving end of their torture. If you dont beileve this then go try to look it up. Most likely you will find nothing. Experts will be quick to point out that where there is no info on something specific, more often than not,it usually points to the plain to see fact that it is being hidden, and trust me, it is.
TARGETED CANADIANS NEVER EVER GET OFF THIS GANGS LIST ALIVE
Why all this expense and effort you may ask? Thats easy, return on investment, that is these gangs pay fraudulent monthly insurance premiums on their tatgets, all over the world so that when a target finally does die, they collect tens of millions of dollars in again, 100% fraudulent payouts. If we dont collectively stand up to this horror show, each time a target dies, ten more innocent Canadian citizens become new targets and evil, vicious cycle continues.
MORE ABOUT BEING ON THE TARGETED INDIVIDUAL LIST
When you are nominated and entered into this covert killing machine as a targeted Individual, your life instantly ceases to be your own. From that moment, you are to be followed by hideous criminal gang members who operate with 90% immunity, protected by throngs of middle gang managers who have access to police, fire, ambulance, medical and government people who all work for this new incideous fascist communist regime. These traitors, seditionists, murderers and scum have all but taken over Canada. I myself am being basically tortured around the clock by a neighbouring criminal gang stalking family. Even with months of more than compelling and troubling vifeo, audio evidence, The police called me insane and laughed in my face. This gang has even made infiltrated my family. because when i finally reached out to my high ranking retired Interpol/RCMP Father and Mother and best friend, all they could say was that maybe I should get mental help! So you see the absolutely horrific and hopeless situation that we targeted victims are in? I have even sent video and audio of their attacks on me ad well as video showing my healthy heart rate and pulse going from 87 all the way up to 140 bpm in under 3 minutes flat. This explosion of my heart rate is consistent with what my wife and I have been experiencing for a couple years now, but much less often than tofay which is, literally every sleepimg and waking moment. This family of five is hell bent on causing mine or both of our demises by causing a heart attack, stroke or even cancer by assaulting us to a non stop barrage of deadly microwave radiation with their incideous weapons.I have honestly months of video and audio evidence that clearly show this families pattern of following me around our apt from their apt directly above. They are obviously using some type of tech that can see me wherever i go. My wife verifies that the moment I awake and go to our washroom, we both hear their footsteps follow me from above. Then, in 99% of these times, wherever I stop, they too stop and always they then plop down something heavy and metallic on their floor above. Then, within 30 to 60 seconds, I experience sudden hot flashes, inexplicable sudden onset of stomach butterflies which are then always followed by extremely troubling and downright terrifying heart palipitations. Some of their ttacks are more aggressive than others. They attack harder or more aggressive whenever i have the audacity to try to shelter myself from their attacks! We live in the greatest country on the planet, but how the hell did this obvious takeover take place. Everyday and night our life in this apt is a literal hell on earth because of this organized gang of stalkers, liars and murderers. We are law abiding citizens, we both litetally have survived multiple attempts on our lives while barely surviving homelessness together twenty years ago here in Toronto. We have both overcome severe, long term alcohol, crack, cocaine and opiate addictions. We both still struggle with depression and a lack of self worth as the result of our former self destructive lifestyles. We both live with tremendous guilt, especially considering the decades of hurting and disappointing those we love so very dearly.. We have already paid a hefty price for this and we have both lost most of our so precious friends in out lives. Still, we had motored forward, we admit far too slowly but we did manage to build an impressive multi channel, hyperlocal, low cost business model that connects underemployed creatve and cultural workers to local businesses and shops. All businesses need marketing, but priced low enough to continue marketing on an ongoing basis. Our cteative Members work for less to help shops in their own neighbouthood in teturn for cash paid the same day as the contract is fulfilled. Our years of research, product and services testing and fulfilling local marketing contracts have helped us to drill down into very certain business niches and our fifth business plan shows this. Even before COVID, there was an urgent need for ongoing and low cost advertising and marketing across omni channels both online and offline together. We connect online and offline together as a rule or mission statement simply by utilizing qr codes to even marketing playing fields. We believe that we could be one of the first independent businesses to develop QR Code classifieds as well as QR Code Shops, which are basically paper points of sale. We had worked long and hard to figure out how we could custom design, build, further develop and then market test and then launch our own very own automated business and QR Code publications. We research the products and setvices to sell and then we design each paper store, configure qr codes, print the posters, flyera and stickers and then distribute them throughout one Neighbourhood at a time. We then use Google Analytics to watch sales live as they happen! All of this ground breaking work is not at the hands of a delusional indane man, like these criminal gangs assert. We've even developed our own digital out of home ad networks that work in conjunction with all of our, and equally our local clients marketing, online ecommerce and offline print publishing goods and services. We have even attracted expert investors who clearly see validity in our bisiness model. We could go on forever but right now, we are in urgently in need of your help to save our lives, especially my life because as Leona will testify in court, they target and attack me around the clock, absolutely and literally! They cause sudden and extremely dangerous spikes in my heart rate, not a couple times a day but, many dozens of times each day and night, awake or asleep!! They also cause sudden sharp pains and or numbness in the back of my head, burns on feet and legs and too much to go into right at this moment. Please someone help us. There just has to ve someone out there who will believe our nightmare. This gang family wont stop until i am dead. There just has to be one person, one detective one politician who can and will help. I pray that readers of this article will reach out to good people im law enforcement in Toronto or Canada. Most honest readers of this letter will clearly see that I am not insane and this is all 100% fact and our lives are in imminent danger. If only one person could conduct some type of scan of our apt to see what is happening to us.
This is exactly why we started this organization, to team up with millions of others going through this hell too. One of our central missions is to build an action advisory board that will act mediayely on behalf of other innocent Targeted Individuals by making calla, emails, paper lettera urging action from rach Targeted Individuals own community. In this way, they too will be believed! Thank you and God Bless You. Gotdon Welke and Leona Sackaney, Toronto, Ontario Canada.
MORE ON THEIR ATTACKS
Here is how their attacks un fold: Through endless years of living here we too thought their following us was somehow innocent. However, I really took notice in the past months that when i stop to use the washroom ,shower, cook, sit to work on computer and, if you can believe, while we sleep or watch a classic movie, these sick and horrible people begin their incideous and invasive attacks right through their floor and down through our ceiling onto both of us innocent, loving, accepting, rent paying Canadian citizens.
LIFE INSURANCE FRAUD WITH NO TOUCH MURDER AT THE CENTRE OF ALL THIS TORTURE
My wife finally knows for certain what they are up to. I have had notes dropped to me yelling me that i am being set up for electronic murder so these gangs can collect big life insurance claims after paying years of secret very high monthly payments that pay off in the millions should they succeed in murdering me or directly causing mine or Leonas severe illness or cancer. I/we ate all alone. There is no help for us, or so it seems. I get that this all sounds like far too much but, just dont fall for their evil incideous game, where anyone, any good human being that dare speak out about these crimes are labeled as delusional, schitzophrenic or insane. Please do your own Independent research and most importantly, listen to your heart or follow your gut, please.
So, What's happened to our true north and free, the Canada we knew? This hurts me to tell you all but, these organized fascist gangs are now closer and closer to full and total control of our government, our police and our emergency services and most likely our military as well, basically our country we hold so dear. You have been fooled, we have been fooled, our collective goodness has been taken as weakness time amd time again. The only way to stop a total fall of the leftover good in our Canada is not through any violence, because that is exactly what this gang wants. We must, and I do mean we must, Unite and stand up for each other trying every conceivable legal and peaceful method we can. If this fails, we all know what could be coming our way, dont we?
MORE BACKGROUND ON CRIMINAL ORGANIZED CRIME
Please know that every community in Canada is involved and thia Nazi organization can just go ahead and illegally put any innocent Canadian on their targeted list. They then go ahead and illegally create a completely fake history. Yeah and then they enlist other so-called soldiers are also gang stalkers to assist in spreading lies to family and community, employers and potential business funders and banks. These gang members are committing domestic terrorism, electronic murder and treason to say the least. The so-called experts say that there's tens of thousands of targeted individuals but this is not true. In reality there's Millions yes millions in Canada alone!! These organized stalkers, also widely finally being called perps and most recently referred to as "despicables," can nominate any innocent Canadian to be put on their very illegal but very powerful terrorist watch list. Can you imagine this is where we at in Canada. This is not fear mongering, this is not mental illness, this is the horrifying absolute fact and truth. So you may ask me how I know this how I know it's all true? I know this because I am on their targeted list!
I want the world to know Who is doing this to me. My experience, like many TI's, is hell and these monsters have our hands tied unless we join together and begin to fight back with everything we've got! I have quickly accumulated this unwanted expertise and I can say that I also have media, marketing and a long list of additional transferrable skill sets to develop and launch an organization to help ourselves, but, not without your help. Please join us, we need big numbers to get the message out to our politicians. We members can jump into action inviting authorities, lawyers, security experts and so on so forth. Just what they're attacking me with we can't say for certain but I do have months of shocking videos that show the absolute arrogance and severity of what they are doing to us, and Around the clock! Whayever they are doing to me is the same game 24 hours a day. They follow me until I stop somewhere in our apartment and then, they plop down something metallic, their Direct Energy weapon of some sort and they hit me by flicking some type of switch. I have even recorded this weapon recharging after they discharge it on me.

In honor of Babe Ruth’s 125th birthday, here’s the All-Guys Nicknamed Babe Team. And at last an answer to the question you’ve always wondered: Who had more bWAR, Babe Ruth, or the combined total of the 30 other players called Babe?

Happy birthday, Babe Ruth! The Big Fella would have turned 125 years old today, and if he were somehow with us I bet he could still turn around a fastball.
In honor of the Babe, what would the All-Babe Team look like? And who had more Wins Above Replacement according to Baseball Reference (bWAR): Babe Ruth, or the combined total of the 30 other guys who also had the nickname Babe?
I'm not including the various players with nicknames derived from Baby, the 1950s player Loren Babe, or Samuel Byrd -- who, as a frequent pinch-runner and defensive replacement for the Bambino, had the nickname "Babe Ruth's Legs." These are just players nicknamed Babe — whether in honor of Ruth or for unrelated or unknown reasons — according to Baseball Reference.
Lineup: CF Babe Ganzel: 0.4 bWAR SS Babe Pinelli: 5.7 bWAR RF Babe Herman: 40.3 bWAR LF Babe Ruth: 162.1 bWAR DH Babe Phelps: 14.0 bWAR 1B Babe Young: 11.3 bWAR 3B Babe Dahlgren: 4.2 bWAR 2B Babe Ellison: -0.9 bWAR C Babe Roof: 3.3 bWAR
Ganzel had a career .378 OBP so we'll bat him lead-off. Pinelli -- who was more of a third baseman, but did have 71 games at shortstop -- is your old-school bunt/slap hitter in the 2 hole. Herman should see a lot of fastballs hitting in front of the Colossus of Clout. Of course Ruth hit third for the Murderer's Row Yankees — that’s why he wore #3 — but we'll bat him clean-up here. Phelps will start against righties, but we may have to platoon him. Young should flourish as the six hitter. Dahlgren was primarily a first baseman, but we need him at third. Ellison was a terrible hitter but we don't have another second baseman on the roster. Roof is your typical good glove/bad bat catcher so we'll bat him 9th.
Bench: 1B Babe Borton: 3.8 bWAR OF Babe Twombly: 0.3 bWAR C Babe Wilber: 0.2 bWAR C Babe Towne: 0.1 bWAR 1B Babe Danzig: 0.0 bWAR OF Babe Klee: 0.0 bWAR OF Babe Bigelow: -0.2 bWAR 1B Babe Butka: -0.4 bWAR OF Babe Martin: -0.6 bWAR OF Babe Barna: -0.7 bWAR OF Babe Nelson: -1.0 bWAR
Borton’s really the only Babe on the bench we’d want to use as a pinch hitter.
Pitching Staff: P Babe Adams: 52.2 bWAR P Babe Ruth: 20.3 bWAR P Babe Marchildon: 9.5 bWAR P Babe Klieman: 5.1 bWAR P Babe Birrer: 0.9 bWAR P Babe Meers: 0.9 bWAR P Babe Linke: 0.9 bWAR P Babe Doty: 0.5 bWAR P Babe Davis: 0.2 bWAR P Babe Sherman: -0.2 bWAR P Babe Picone: -0.3 bWAR
Our top two are formidable, with the right-handed Adams and the lefty Ruth, but it gets ugly quick. Marchildon had 162 starts in the bigs, going 68-75 with a respectable 3.93 ERA, but 5.1 BB/9. Kleiman was 26-28 with 33 saves and a 3.49 ERA. After that... well... maybe we'll go with the "opener" strategy.
Now lets take a look at them, Babe by Babe:
OF/P Babe Ruth: 182.4 bWAR
According to Baseball Reference, The Bambino had 162.1 bWAR as a batter and 20.3 bWAR as a pitcher... which is the second-highest pitching bWAR of any Babe in baseball history. Almost all his value as a pitcher came in just two seasons, 1916 (8.8) and 1917 (6.5) -- ages 21 and 22. In those two seasons, he had a combined 47-25 record with 650.0 IP, 1.88 ERA, and 1.077 WHIP.
George Herman Ruth -- who usually was called "Jidge" by his teammates, a funny mispronunciation of George -- picked up the nickname Babe when he was an 18-year-old prospect with the minor league Baltimore Orioles in 1913. There are several origin stories for the famous nickname... some say because he had a round baby face, others because he was so naive and rambunctious he was like an overgrown baby, and some because Orioles manager Jack Dunn doted on him like his own child.
People usually think of Babe Ruth as a right fielder, but he played almost as many games in left (1,048) as he did in right (1,130)... not to mention 74 games in center field, 32 at first base, and 163 at pitcher. In fact, Ruth almost always played left field except in stadiums that had a big left field -- like Yankee Stadium! Almost all of Ruth's career games in right field were at Yankee Stadium, Cleveland's League Park, and Washington D.C.'s Griffith Stadium. Everywhere else, he almost always played left field.
P Babe Adams: 52.2 bWAR
The second-best Babe was a star pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the deadball era, going 194-140 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.092 WHIP over a 19-year career. He was renowned for his control, walking just 430 men in 2,995.1 career innings — 1.29 BB/9. To put that in perspective, Greg Maddux had a 1.79 BB/9. Charles Adams was known as Babe several years before George Herman got the nickname. He picked it up in the minors in 1907 or 1908, supposedly because the female fans in Louisville were so enamored with his beautiful baby face.
OF/1B Babe Herman: 40.3 bWAR
Like Ruth and Adams, Floyd Herman picked up the nickname Babe in the minors. In 1921, the 18-year-old rookie with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Canada League introduced himself as Lefty, but his manager didn't like that -- too many players already named Lefty. After seeing Herman’s power in spring training, the giddy manager said: “You’re going to be my Babe,” as in Ruth. Over a 13-year MLB career, Herman hit .324/.383/.532 with 181 HR and 997 RBI. Such great numbers, why only 40.3 bWAR? Herman was a famously inept baserunner, and the source of an epic line from Ring Lardner: "Babe Herman did not triple into a triple play, but he doubled into a double play, which is the next best thing." He was even worse as a fielder -- in 1928, many decades before Jose Canseco, a fly ball bounced off his head. Years later, a sportswriter asked Herman about the play, and he said the story was all wrong: "The ball actually hit me in the shoulder!” I'm... not sure that's better. His defensive WAR was -9.7!
C Babe Phelps: 14.0 bWAR
The 6'2", 225-pound Ernest Phelps got the nickname Babe because of his resemblance, both in terms of body size and his face, to Ruth. Like Ruth, put on weight as he got older... by the end of his career, he was sometimes called "Blimp." A left-handed hitting catcher, Phelps hit a respectable .310/.362/.472 over an 11-year career.
1B Babe Young: 11.3 bWAR
Like several others on this list, Norman Robert Young lost some prime years to World War II. From 1939 to 1942, ages 23 through 26, the first baseman hit .277/.359/.454 in 424 games for a .813 OPS, accounting for 8.9 of his career 11.3 bWAR. He missed the next three seasons as he was in the U.S. Coast Guard, returning in 1946 at the age of 30. I can't find the origin story of his nickname, but as a left-handed slugger who played for Fordham University in the Bronx in the 1930s, I can guess it was in honor of the Bambino.
P Babe Marchildon: 9.5 bWAR
There are several people on this list who we can't even guess as to how they picked up the nickname Babe. This is definitely one of them. Babe was a most unlikely moniker for Philip Joseph Marchildon, a 5'10", 170-pound right-handed Canadian pitcher who lived a very tough life. Born in Ontario, he didn't play baseball until he was in high school, then got a job working in a nickel mine. At the age of 25, pitching for a semi-pro team, he went to a try-out with the minor league Toronto Maple Leafs; Marchildon struck out seven of the nine batters he faced, then drove back to Sudbury to resume life as a miner. As the story goes, the manager drove all the way to Sudbury to find him, dragged him out of the elevator just before it descended into the depths, and forced him right then and there to sign a baseball contract. Presumably because of his time as a miner, Marchildon had incredible strength in his fingers, enabling him to throw a fastball with remarkable movement... but he also struggled to control it, and often was among the league leaders in walks, wild pitches, and hit batters. In 1942, Marchildon joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a tail gunner on a bomber. Two years later, his bomber was shot down over Denmark. Marchildon and only one other crewmember survived; they were captured by the Germans and sent to Stalag Luft III, the prison camp made famous by the movie The Great Escape. After the war, Marchildon returned to baseball, but those who had known him before and after said the war had changed him, and he was long tormented by nightmares about what he'd endured. Marchildon, who went 68-75 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.456 WHIP in a nine-year career, is a member both the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.
IF Babe Pinelli: 5.7 bWAR
If only umpires accumulated bWAR! Rinaldo Angelo Paolinelli (he would later change it to the more American-sounding Ralph Pinelli) was born in San Francisco in 1895 -- the same years as Ruth -- to Italian immigrants. (His father was killed by a falling telephone pole in the Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.) As a boy, he loved to play baseball, but the older boys wouldn't let him, and taunted him as "Babe" (as in baby) when he cried about it. Eventually they let him play, and he proved to be good enough that he would have an eight-year career in the bigs, hitting .276/.328/.346 in 2,617 ABs primarily as a third baseman for the Reds. After his career ended, Pinelli became an umpire; it's believed he was the first Italian-American umpire in MLB history when he made his debut in 1935. Pinelli was behind the plate for Don Larsen's perfect Game 5 in the 1956 World Series, and retired after Game 7. He wrote the first autobiography by an umpire, Mr. Ump, and was known as "The Lou Gehrig of Umpires" because he claimed he never missed a game in his 22-year career. He wasn't always on time, though: In 1941, Pinelli's umpiring crew was taking a boat from New York to Boston, and got lost in the fog. The first inning was umpired by the players, but the umpires arrived for the 2nd inning. Boston's manager was Casey Stengel, and from then on whenever Pinelli missed a call, Stengel would holler: "You're still fogbound!"
P Babe Klieman: 5.1 bWAR
We don't know why Edward Frederick Klieman was called Babe, but he also was called Specs and you can see why. Klieman was a swing-man for the Indians in the 1940s, going 26-28 with 33 saves and a 3.49 ERA in eight seasons.
1B Babe Dahlgren: 4.2 bWAR
Ellsworth Tenney Dahlgren was born in San Francisco in 1912, two years before Ruth made his MLB debut. His stepfather dubbed him "Babe" after the Sultan of Swat. Dahlgren actually followed in Ruth's footsteps, making his debut for the Red Sox in 1935 and then a few years later joining the rival New York Yankees, and later in his career played for the Boston Braves. Dahlgren famously replaced Lou Gehrig at first base when the Iron Horse ended his consecutive games played streak. He hit .261/.329/.383 over his 12-year career.
1B Babe Borton: 3.8 bWAR
A deadball era first baseman, it's unknown how William Baker Borton was dubbed Babe, but he was known by that nickname in 1913, a year before Ruth. A seldom-used reserve for the White Sox and Yankees, Borton jumped to the Federal League in 1915. That season, playing for the St. Louis Terriers, he would hit a respectable .286 with a .395 OBP (leading the league with 92 walks!). After the Federal League folded, Borton returned to MLB and would hit .224/.350/.306 in just 98 ABs, and then like many other former Federal League players was released. He would keep playing professionally in the Pacific Coast League, but in 1920 -- the same year the Black Sox scandal was unveiled -- the 30-year-old Borton was caught in a scheme trying to fix games, and booted from professional baseball.
C Babe Roof: 3.3 bWAR
The last MLB player with the nickname Babe was Phil Roof, who also had the grand nickname of the Duke of Paducah. Roof was a light-hitting catcher, putting up a .215/.283/.319 line in 2,151 career ABs... and yet he had a good enough glove to have a 15-year MLB career, retiring in 1977 at the age of 36. Babe Roof hit 43 home runs in his 15-year career... which means he averaged less than three a year.
P Babe Birrer: 0.9 bWAR
A pitcher in the 1950s, Werner Joseph Birrer posted a career 4.36 ERA and 1.387 WHIP in 119.2 career innings over three seasons. I can only imagine the disappointment of a little boy opening a pack of Bowman Cards and finding not a Mantle or a Mays but a Birrer. But for all that, Birrer did have one shining moment, and how he got the nickname Babe. On July 19, 1955, Birrer pitched four shutout innings in relief... and hit not one but two three-run home runs. A pitcher who hits home runs, naturally he was given the nickname Babe!
P Babe Meers: 0.9 bWAR
Russell Harlan Meers was a left-handed pitcher for the Cubs who pitched in one game in 1941 -- taking the loss despite giving up just one earned run and five hits in 8 innings -- and then of course World War II happened. He would spend 1942-1945 in the U.S. Navy. After the war he'd pitch another two seasons with the Cubs, then bounce around a few more years in the minors. In his MLB career, he went 3-3 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.482 WHIP. He threw hard, but had fantastically bad control... as a 20-year-old rookie in the Mountain State League in 1939, he walked 191 batters in 227 innings!
P Babe Linke: 0.9 bWAR
Edward Karl Linke posted a 5.61 ERA and 1.695 WHIP but somehow lasted six years in the bigs. Maybe he kept getting chances because he threw a no-hitter in the minors as a 20-year-old in 1932. Linke's career very nearly ended in 1935, when he was hit in the face by a line drive; it hit him so hard that it bounced off his forehead and went back to the catcher, who caught it on the fly and threw to second for a double play! Linke was hospitalized for two days, but returned to baseball (and would win eight of his nine decisions after that). Unfortunately we don't know why he was called Babe.
P Babe Doty: 0.5 bWAR
The original Babe according to baseball-reference.com, Elmer L. Doty was born in 1867. He had just one MLB appearance, but it was a pretty good one -- a complete game win for the Toledo Maumees, allowing just one run and one walk while fanning four against the Brooklyn Bridgerooms. He would continue to pitch semi-pro and minor league ball for a few more years before becoming a woodworker. Alas, he may be the original Babe, but we don't know why they called him that; quite possibly it was because he was just 22 years old when he made his debut.
OF Babe Ganzel: 0.4 bWAR
He was born Foster Pirie Ganzel, so I understand why he wanted a nickname, but I don't know why it was Babe. He had two brief stints in the majors, hitting .311/.378/.473 in 74 career ABs; but the outfielder had a long minor league career, beginning as a 21-year-old in 1922 and ending as a 41-year-old in 1942. He was later a minor league manager; one time in response to criticism from fans that he never told his players to bunt, he ordered his first nine batters to do so. All nine reached base safely. I guess the fans were right!
OF Babe Twombly: 0.3 bWAR
Clarence Edward Twombly played two years for the Chicago Cubs, 1920-1921, hitting .304/.357./366 in 358 career ABs. We can speculate he got the nickname Babe because he was the baby brother to another major leaguer, George, who played five seasons between 1914 and 1919 (hitting .211/.289/.247 in 417 ABs). Interestingly enough, big brother George was playing for the minor league Baltimore Orioles in 1914 when he was stricken by appendicitis, and he was replaced in the lineup by a baby-faced rookie named... Babe Ruth. Later that year, the Reds were given the opportunity to purchase two players from the Orioles roster; instead of Ruth, they took George Twombly and a former major league infielder named Claud Derrick. Later that year, the Red Sox were given the same deal and they took Ruth and Ernie Shore.
C Babe Wilber: 0.2 bWAR
If not for World War 2, maybe Delbert Quentin Wilber would have been higher on this list. As an infant, his mother called him "Babe" and it stuck. Wilber made his minor league debut as a 19-year-old catcher in the St. Louis Browns system in 1938, hitting .304 with a .490 SLG in 398 ABs, and he'd follow that up hitting .308 with a .472 SLG in 435 ABs in 1940. But three months after Pearl Harbor, Wilber found himself at the Jefferson Barracks Army Air Force Base in Missouri. He entered the war as a private and left it as a captain, spending most of that time on military bases as a playemanager for baseball teams often loaded with MLB stars. He would finally reach the Show as a 27-year-old in 1946, getting a cup of coffee with the St. Louis Cardinals. Over his eight-year career, Wilber would hit .242/.286/.389 in 720 ABs.
P Babe Davis: 0.2 bWAR
Born in 1913 -- one month after the inauguration of the 28th president -- Woodrow Wilson Davis pitched in just two MLB games, giving up one run on three hits (but four walks) for the Detroit Tigers in 1938. He did have seven years in the minors, going 50-55 in 190 games across six different leagues, but like many others on this list his professional baseball career was derailed by World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. I can't find a source for the nickname Babe, but he obviously liked the nickname -- after baseball, he founded "Babe's Mighty Mites," a baseball and softball youth program in Wayne County, Georgia.
C Babe Towne: 0.1 bWAR
A catcher for 14 games for the Chicago White Sox in 1906, Jay King Towne went 10-for-36 with seven walks (.395 OBP) and had a pinch-hit appearance in the 1906 World Series, but apparently that wasn't good enough to bring him back to the bigs the following season. He had a long minor league career, though, starting as a 22-year-old catcher for the Rock Rapids Browns in the Iowa-South Dakota League in 1902 and ending as a 36-year-old playemanager of the Fort Dodge Dodgers in the Central Association in 1916. In 1911, he hit .366 for the Sioux City Packers of the Western League! Like many others, I can't find the origin of the nickname Babe, but he had it years before Ruth did.
1B Babe Danzig: 0.0 bWAR
Harold Paul Danzig went 2-for-13 in his only MLB season, in 1909 with the Boston Red Sox. Danzig would spend a total of nine years in professional baseball, playing in the Pacific Coast League, the New England League (hitting .345 for Lowell Tigers in 232 AB), the Southern Association, and the Empire State League. Danzig -- born eight years before Ruth, and making his MLB debut while Ruth was a 14-year-old boy at St. Mary's School for Boys -- reportedly picked up the nickname Babe because of his large size as a youth, in reference to Paul Bunyan's blue ox!
OF Babe Klee: 0.0 bWAR
Ollie Chester Klee appeared in just three MLB games, all with the Cincinnati Reds in 1925. On August 10th, he replaced future Hall of Famer Edd Roush in center field in the 7th inning of a 10-6 game against the Brooklyn Robins; he would then lead off against Dazzy Vance in the 9th, and strike out. (Vance would strike out the side, going the distance in the 13-7 victory.) On August 14 and August 26, the 25-year-old got into games as a pinch runner, but didn't get to bat or field... or even advance a base. Klee had been a star halfback at the Ohio State University and later was a high school football coach. Unfortunately, we don't know when or why he picked up the nickname Babe.
OF Babe Bigelow: -0.2 bWAR
Maybe the Boston Red Sox thought they'd reversed the curse in 1929 when they signed a left-handed power hitter nicknamed Babe. Elliot Allardice Bigelow had been a minor league sensation, tearing up the Florida State League, the South Atlantic League, and the Southern Association. Between 1924 and 1928, his lowest batting average was .349. Supposedly the right-field fence in Chattanooga was so deep that only three balls had ever been hit over it... two of them by Bigelow. Of course if he'd played today, they'd call him Bam-Bam, but in 1926, you call a guy like that Babe. In Boston, the 31-year-old rookie would hit a respectable .284 with a .357 OBP, but only one home run in 211 ABs. In addition to his lack of power, his other problem was, in those pre-DH days, Bigelow was just too slow and awkward to play the field. After one season in the Show, he returned to the minors to terrorize the pitchers of the Southern Association. In 12 seasons in the minors -- 1,473 games -- Bigelow hit .349!
P Babe Sherman: -0.2 bWAR
Lester Daniel Sherman had twice as many nicknames -- Babe or General -- as he did games played. He pitched in just one game, facing three batters -- getting one out and walking two -- as a 23-year-old pitcher for Chicago in the Federal League in 1914. He would pitch sporadically in the minors after that, going 10-15 in 44 games. Maybe they called him Babe because of his youth, or his size -- he was listed at 5'6" and 145 pounds.
P Babe Picone: -0.3 bWAR
Another guy who we don't know where the nickname came from. Mario Peter Picone played pro ball for 13 seasons, but had only 40 innings in the bigs, scattered between 1947 and 1954. The righty went 0-2 with a 6.30 ERA and 1.700 WHIP in three starts and 10 relief appearances.
1B Babe Butka: -0.4 bWAR
A war-time replacement, Edward Luke Butka hit just .220 in 50 ABs between 1943 and 1944. He got the nickname Babe as a teenager playing semi-pro baseball in Pennsylvania in the 1930s because of his impressive home run power. Butka, the son of Polish immigrants, wanted to fight in World War II but was ruled 4-F because of a punctured ear drum; he tried to enlist more than once, but was always turned away. After the veteran players returned from the war, Butka kicked around the minors for awhile and later became a player-manager.
OF Babe Martin: -0.6 bWAR
Boris Michael Martinovich was born in 1920, the son of a Montenegro-born professional wrestler known as Iron Mike Martin. The youngest of five children, Boris was called Baby for years, and the nickname stuck; when he grew into a man, it soon became the more baseball-friendly nickname of Babe. He spent most of his professional career in the minors, though he did get 185 at-bats with the St. Louis Browns in 1945, hitting .200/.245/.281. In Double-A in 1944, he hit .350/.418/.580 in 386 AB, and in Triple-A in 1947 he hit .319/.383/.555.
OF Babe Barna: -0.7 bWAR
Herbert Paul Barna was a three-sport star at West Virginia University in the 1930s, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball; the Philadelphia Eagles wanted him, but instead he signed with the Philadelphia Athletics. West Virginia University also was where he got the nickname Babe, presumably because of his size (6'2", 210 pounds) and because he was a left-handed power hitter. The outfielder may have had a better career in the NFL, as he hit .232/.311/.346 in five MLB seasons.
UT Babe Ellison: -0.9 bWAR
Herbert Spencer Ellison would hit .216/.282/.284 in 348 AB between 1916 and 1920; despite his poor hitting, he was a useful utility man, seeing time at every position except pitcher and catcher! After a standout freshman year for the University of Arkansas baseball team, at the age of 18 he turned pro, playing for the Clinton Pilots in the Central Association. We can speculate he got the name Babe because he was so very young. A year later he would make his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers, where he'd play his entire five-year MLB career. After that, he would be a star in the Pacific Coast League; he and Babe Pinelli were teammates on the 1927 San Francisco Seals. It's possible he was known as Babe before that other Babe was too widely known; we can speculate he got the nickname because he was so young when he turned pro.
OF Babe Nelson: -1.0 bWAR
Another big left-handed outfielder, Robert Sidney Nelson hit just .205/.295/.254 in 122 AB with the Baltimore Orioles between 1955 and 1957. He got the nickname Babe because of his prodigious power in high school -- he was known as "The Babe Ruth of Texas." After he joined the Orioles, he was given another nickname -- Tex -- by his roommate, future Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson. Nelson was pretty much on the bench for three years, then went to the minors where he had some good seasons, but some bad ones too. He was out of baseball in 1961, at the age of 24. He would never hit a home run in the bigs, but he did have 75 of them in the minors.
And finally... Who had more bWAR, Babe Ruth, or the 30 other Babes combined?
Babe Ruth: 182.4 bWAR 30 Other Babes: 149.5 bWAR
The King of Crash also is the King of Babes!

Is online sports betting legal in Canada?

Hi, I am in Ontario and interested in online sports betting. I am thinking of registering with bet365.com and just want to check that I am not breaking any law by placing bets on such sites. Also, do we have to pay any taxes on winnings.
Thanks in advance.

Single event bets in Canada, are they legit?

This whole betting thing is driving me crazy now!!!
I registered with Sports Interaction (SIA) a few days back and was about to start betting. Somehow I stumbled upon this article somewhere which said 'Single bets' are illegal in Canada. SIA, a licensed entity by Kahnawake Gaming Commission, allows single event betting. I can understand Kahnawake is an autonomous region within Canada and have their own laws but it is really weird to observe such disparity with Canadian gaming laws.
Anyways, I have two simple questions and request advise/opinions on this matter;
1) As an Ontario resident, if I place parlay bets only on SIA, are they 100% legal?
2) If someone is to place single event bets on other licensed online sportsbooks (with servers outside Canada) such as Pinnacle, will that be legal? Some people say it's a 'Grey Area', to me it should not be one, since there is no Canadian law applicable to online gaming as such. I just don't want to get into anything illegal, "technically" legal/ illegal or anything within Grey Zone?
Thanks in advance.

After the End Fan Fork Dev Diary 35 - Mexico Overhaul, Map Changes, and Hosay

After the End Fan Fork Dev Diary 35 - Mexico Overhaul, Map Changes, and Hosay
Good tidings, all!
It's been quite a while, but it is finally time for me to show off some of the changes I've made for v0.6 of the Fan Fork! I apologize for the wait, and I hope the content of this dev diary will be enough to make up for it.
As ShiatAli explained yesterday, a few of our team members (most notably him and vivyshe) have taken initiative to add some features of their own conception to the mod, including an incorporation of Renewed Ummah (the Islam submod) and a new feature for the Pacific faiths. Today, however, we'll be focusing on changes that I've made south of the border. Let's take a look!
Mexico Overhaul
Overall, Mexico has been one of the regions least touched by the Fan Fork so far in terms of history. While other regions, including South America, the Caribbean, and Canada, have received extensive history and religion overhauls, Mexico has stayed static (aside from the addition of Reconquistas for Sagrado Corazon.) However, all that is going to change in v0.6. Let's start by looking at the new political, cultural, and religious maps. Before we do that, though, I have to thank u/Mr_Badaniel for his extensive and well-researched suggestion posts (which can be found here and here), as well as Tlatoani from our Discord server for help with a few lore changes that will be explained in more detail later.
The Kingdom of Zapoteca is united at the start, and Veracruz is now a vassal of Mexico.
Cultures have been changed somewhat.
Wait, what happened to Sol Invicta?
The center of the Sol Invicta faith has been moved from the Kingdom of Zapoteca to the Kingdom of Michoacan. This makes far more sense in the context of Mesoamerican history - Zapoteca contains important Mesoamerican sites such as Monte Alban and Mitla, and giving Mictlantec to the Purepechas seemed like a bit of an odd choice given their historic independence from Aztec rule. However, the religion placement change is only the first half of the changes made to this area's religions in v0.6. You may have noticed that Sol Invicta is sporting a different name. Let's take a closer look at it now.
That new name is really hard to spell, by the way.
For those who cannot read the above image:
Jurihiata Ikikunari (Untamed Sun)
Jurihiata Ikikunari is a religion based on Mesoamerican mythology that emerged after the Event. Followers of Jurihiata Ikikunari revere Eréndira, the sun goddess. When the forces of darkness came to enslave Mexico, Eréndira, then a mortal princess, fought valiantly against them by teaching her people the ways of the horse. Although she failed to stop the conquest of darkness, she ascended to Aúandarhu, the land of the gods, instead of dying. Over time, the gods in Aúandarhu began to vanish because of the influence of the darkness on their people. The last god to vanish, the sun god, passed his mantle to Eréndira. The new sun goddess then used her divine power to free Mexico by wiping the world's slate clean. The darkness still fights to regain its power, but Eréndira will always protect her faithful...
The renamed Jurihiata Ikikunari religion draws on the Purepecha legend of Erendira, and reimagines her as the sole surviving Mesoamerican deity following an invasion of dark forces into Mexico. The parallels here are rather obvious.
We've also changed the holy sites for both Mictlantec and Sol Invicta/Jurihiata Ikikunari. Here are the new holy sites:
Mictlantec:
  • Mexico City
  • Tlaxacala
  • Tlacolula
  • Iguala
  • Petatlan
Jurihiata Ikikunari:
  • Mexico City
  • Patzcuaro
  • Guanajuato
  • Mixton
  • Durango
Let's talk a little more about Mexican history...
The Fall of the Mexican Empire
The Mexican Empire's history has always been a little ambiguous and ill-defined, partly because the old in-game history files didn't match up with other stated pieces of lore. Well, I've rewritten Mexico's lore from the ground up to help smooth out this rough patch and give the region a more solid foundation. Here's a look at the new title history of the Empire of Mexico.
The Empire of Mexico's new title history.
As you can see, the line of post-Event Emperors now formally begins with Emperor Julian I of (probably not the real) House Iturbide. He managed to reunite the entirety of Old Mexico, from the Rio Grande to the Yucatan. California and the Holy Columbian Confederacy had both formed by this time, but Julian's accomplishments outdid both of them - unlike Elton or Leonidas, Julian's Empire was unanimously recognized as the true continuation of its pre-Event counterpart.
A rather impressive set of stats, wouldn't you say? (Julian has the Legendary trait, but his portrait isn't occluded because otherwise the Iturbide bloodline would have a big question mark next to it.)
The Empire title passed down from Julian down to Aureliano and the rest of the line detailed above, until the reign of Emperor Renato. Renato was a passable ruler by anyone's standards, but Mexico's rule over its historic lands were beginning to slip. The entire Yucatan Peninsula broke away during the reign of Emperor Osvaldo. The indigenous peoples in the Empire's south, inspired by this example, began becoming more and more restless. Osvaldo was able to keep them in line through sheer force of will, but less than two decades into Renato's rule, disaster struck.
The instigator of Mexico's demise.
In the year 2608, a humble peasant named Kuruchi went to bed after tending his crops. While sleeping, he visited the realm of the gods, Aúandarhu, and met Eréndira, the sun goddess. Eréndira explained to him that the Empire of Mexico was an embodiment of the world's evil, and that the independence of Yucatan was the first part of her divine plan to once more strike down the darkness. Eréndira's radiance nearly blinded Kuruchi, and he was forced to bow his head to keep his bearings. Eréndira, pleased by this show of fealty, gave him her blessing and appointed him as her divine messenger on Earth, who would destroy the darkness in her stead. The next day, Kuruchi awoke, took the machete that he once used to prepare food, and led a revolt against the Mexican Empire.
Kuruchi united with two other Mesoamerican rebels - Nestor of the Zapotecs and Alfonso of the Mixtecs. They were followers of Mictlantecuhtli, but they shared a common goal - independence for their people from the Empire of Mexico. These three men joined forces and began what is now remembered as the Tripartite Revolt.
Emperor Renato, wanting to emulate the example of his father, personally led his forces into battle...
...but unfortunately, he did not possess his father's martial skill.
Renato was felled in battle by Kuruchi himself, and his only legitimate heir was a ten year old boy. Eréndira's mission was completed. Kuruchi, Nestor, and Alfonso became the kings of Michoacan, Zapoteca, and Mixteca, and the Empire of Mexico collapsed into chaos. Atomicists from the north took advantage of this chaos and invaded the Empire from the northwest, further accelerating the collapse of imperial authority. By the time the dust settled and Renato's son Ulisses was able to wrest some degree of power from his corrupt regent and council, the Empire was no more. Mexico went from being the undisputed master of Central America being a comparatively small kingdom bordered by three hostile nations. The cult of Eréndira spread to the Raramuri, who had in turn begun conquering south towards the former imperial heartland. The legacy of Julian and Aureliano lay in ashes. But Mexico will not simply accept this loss. The followers of Jesus and the Saints will reclaim what is rightfully theirs. In the Valley of Mexico, a call for reconquest can be heard...
I'm not even done with Mexico yet, by the way. New Great Works and a reworking of the trade routes are coming soon. For now, let's take a look at some improvements that have been made to the map.
Map Changes
The Fan Fork's lead mapper, BoneLorde, has made yet more changes to the map. Some of these were inspired by the excellent Canada Expanded submod. I'd like to thank Tesserarius_ for his hard work. Now, let's take a look at some of these changes.
We'll start in Canada.
One, two, three, four!
The Duchy of Home has had two additional counties added to it, elevating it to six counties and making it a worthy centerpiece for the Kingdom of Ontario. More importantly, the addition of these new counties allowed us to move a certain someone closer to home...
The new North Nova duchy.
An additional county has been added to Nova Scotia, and the new duchy of North Nova has been split from its three northernmost counties.
The north has been made slightly less inhospitable.
In northern Quebec, a new county, Gouin, has been carved out of an area that was once impassable wasteland.
New stuff in Newfoundland.
The county of Bonavista has been added to Newfoundland, giving Queen Morgan a little more staying power.
The second region that has received a little touching up is Yucatan and Central America. Let's take a look at them.
New counties in Yucatan.
Several new counties have been added to the three northernmost duchies of Yucatan, bringing all three of them up to six counties. If united, the Yucatan would be a powerful kingdom indeed... as Emperor Osvaldo learned.
Central America de facto...
...and de jure.
Central America has received quite a few new counties, and a new duchy has been carved out to accommodate the changes here. Say hello to the new Duchy of Los Altos! (The old Duchy of Los Altos in Mexico was renamed Bajio Occidente.) Altas Honduras has six counties now, but Tegucigalpa is once again the capital of Honduras, so it all works out in the end.
That's about it for new counties. Wait, I still had one more thing to show off!
There once was a man from Nantucket...
Alright, on to the last new feature.
Hosay
I bet you're wondering why I misspelled the Spanish version of Joseph. Well, Hosay is actually the name of a southern Caribbean holiday. Hosay started off as the local version of the Muslim holiday of Ashura, and, now that Islam is in After the End, we felt that it was time for this unique tradition to be given the spotlight.
This is the description for the decision (subject to change)...
...and this is the first event in the chain.
Guyanese, Sranan, Cayennais, and Calypsonian rulers of any religion can choose to celebrate Hosay. I'm hoping that this addition will finally give Guyana some unique, non-vanilla flavor.
Minor Changes
Yeah, we still have minor changes to go through. Here are a few:
  • Added a new icon for After the End, which will show up in your taskbar while alt-tabbed. (Thanks, frederico83!)
Looks neat, huh?
  • Added a new 3D model for Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal. (Thanks again, frederico83!)
Seriously, thank you, man.
  • An Atomicist holy site (and the associated revival events) has been moved from Alameda to White Sands, which is no longer a wasteland in the Steam version.
  • Split up the Caribbanglo and Antilliaanse culture groups - Miskito, Garinagu, Kriol, and Raizal have been moved into the new "Mesanglo" group; Guyanese, Sranan, and Cayennais have been moved into the new "Guyan" culture group. (Papiamen is now in the Caribeno culture group.)
  • Fixed dozens of bugs and issues, too many to get into on top of everything else here.
I hope you're all looking forward to v0.6!

  • 5 new members have been inducted into the Observer Hall of Fame: Lizmark, El Satanico, Bull Nakano, Black Shadow, and Diablo Velasco. The last 2 are historical legends from decades past and they didn't get the votes to be inducted, but every now and then, they usually induct a couple of overlooked legends from years past who have been forgotten by modern audiences but still deserve to be inducted. You know, guys from the 1930s and shit. Dave breaks down all the details on this. Wahoo McDaniel and Undertaker were the top vote-getters among North American wrestlers, but both fell short of the votes needed to get in this year. Eric Bischoff and Cien Caras were both dropped from future ballots for the next 2 years because they got less than 10% of the votes. Shawn Michaels is another interesting case. In 1999, he was only 1 vote shy from being inducted. Last year, he was 7 votes shy. This year, he wasn't even really close and Dave is skeptical if Shawn will ever be considered a serious candidate in the future at this rate. Unless he comes back and has an incredible second half of a career or something, but c'mon, how likely is that? Chris Benoit jumped from 14% last year to 46% this year and Dave thinks it's only a matter of time before he hits the 60% mark needed to get in. As always, everyone's ballots (aside from Dave's, which he mostly revealed last week) are kept confidential due to the political nature of wrestling. From here, Dave writes bios for the 5 inductees.
  • The WWF.com web domain as well as other potential uses of the WWF initials are in jeopardy after a London court ruled against the WWF in a lawsuit filed by the other WWF, the World Wildlife Fund. Back in 1994, the WWF and the WWF....oh fuck, this is gonna get confusing...let's try again. The WWF and the Fund made an agreement back in 1994 regarding the usage of the WWF initials outside the U.S. for marketing purposes. The Fund people trademarked the 'WWF' initials back in 1961 but the two have gotten along peacefully until now. But in April of 2000, the Fund filed a lawsuit against the WWF, claiming that the WWF had repeatedly violated pretty much all of the terms they agreed to in a 1994 agreement over how both sides would share the initials. The WWF argues that the 1994 agreement never specified use of the initials on the internet (since that wasn't really a thing in 1994). The agreement gave the WWF limited use of the initials when absolutely necessary, but otherwise, they were supposed to only say and use "World Wrestling Federation." Needless to say, the WWF has been blatantly ignoring that. The Fund argued that the WWF using those letters hurts the reputation of the animal charity. They're particularly annoyed by the internet domain (WWF.com while the Fund is WWF.org). The WWF argued that changing their domain name could cost them as much as $50 million since it's such an established website. The judge was unmoved and even mentioned how the WWF's lawyers had an "astonishingly poor" and "hopeless" argument. The Fund talked about how they didn't really care about their use of the initials back when WWF was primarily American-based. But then in the 80s and early 90s, they started expanding and running events worldwide. At that point, the Fund threatened a lawsuit, which was settled out of court in 1994 with the limited-use agreement being made. The court ruled that the WWF mostly abided by the agreement until 1997, at which point they started flagrantly ignoring it. Thus, this lawsuit. WWF plans to appeal the ruling.
  • On the final night of the G-1 tournament, NJPW debuted a new tag team into the Team 2000 stable. The team consists of Giant Silva (7'3, formerly of the Oddities in WWF) and Giant Singh (7'1, later known as Great Khali). Silva was said to look okay, but Singh apparently moved very poorly (it only gets worse). Singh will be living and training full time at the NJPW dojo. There's a little bit of controversy over this backstage in NJPW because Masa Saito was largely responsible for recruiting Singh. But other people in the company, unbeknownst to Saito, were the ones who recruited Silva. And now they've been brought in together as a team and the thought is having 2 giants kind of ruins the uniqueness of both of them.
  • It's pretty common news that WWF bought WCW for extremely cheap. Some outlets have reported it as $4.3 million but Dave says it was actually around $2.5 million. Anyway, prior to that sale, a recent news story about the purchase talked about Eric Bischoff and Fusient's scrapped plans to purchase WCW. Back in January, when the Fusient sale was announced, sources at the time claimed Fusient planned to buy WCW for $75 million. According to the story, that wasn't actually true. The number was much lower, but Turner execs leaked a higher number at the time to try to save face. Fusient's real offer was apparently $10 million, with a bunch of other factors and payments written in based on certain conditions and contingent on WCW rebounding and becoming a billion dollar company or something. Which, well, ya know. Anyway, of course this all fell through when Time Warner head Jamie Kellner cancelled the wrestling shows on TBS and TNT. There's been a lot of criticism of AOL/Time Warner lately over the fact that they sold WCW for $2.5 million when they allegedly had a $75 million offer only 3 months earlier. Dave says this story coming out now, with Turner execs admitting that Fusient's offer wasn't actually $75 million, is a way to defend themselves. Basically, WCW was worthless in January too, they just didn't want to admit it publicly back then.
  • The latest Brian Pillman Memorial Show is in the books. This show, put on by Les Thatcher, has become the annual biggest indie wrestler showcase in the country and a lot of indie stars traveled from far and wide to be here and be seen. Last year, William Regal resurrected his career by having a classic match with Chris Benoit that led to WWF re-hiring him. They were supposed to have a rematch this year, but Benoit is of course out with the neck injury. This year, the matches weren't actually the highlight. It was a speech given by Dean Malenko, who talked about retiring soon. HWA and OVW wrestlers worked the show along with NWA champion Steve Corino, Missy Hyatt and Tammy Sytch (promoting Wrestling Vixxxens), and WWF stars like the Hardyz, Lita, Raven, Justin Credible, Hugh Morrus, Dean Malenko, Regal, Edge, Christian, DDP and Kanyon. Even Ricky Steamboat appeared as a guest ref for a Terry Taylor vs. Bobby Eaton match.
  • Main Event Championship Wrestling ran their first, heavily hyped show and it was a bit of a success. It was a free show, so they packed 1,300 people into the ECW Arena and turned away several hundred more. A lot of former ECW wrestlers worked the show with Public Enemy making their return and even former ECW owner Tod Gordon, who turned heel on Sandman. But behind the scenes, it was a whole different thing. The carny underbelly of wrestling was on full display. People involved in the company talked openly about trying to con the rich owner (a guy named Jon Collins) out of as much money as possible. No one actually knows if Collins is rich, they just know he's trying to start a promotion and has been spending money on limos for wrestlers and flew everyone in for the show and everyone sees him as a money mark. He's announced a bunch of stars as being signed, but none of them are, so no one trusts him. Everyone's trying to maneuver themselves to get power in the new company (notably Curt Hennig, Barry Windham, and Sandman, who are all angling for some business involvement). Sandman booked the show, for what it's worth, while Tod Gordon helped put a lot of logistical stuff together for it (grand opening, grand closing).
  • Eric Bischoff has been named COO of a company called Battle Management, a newfound MMA company, with the hopes to get a TV deal in America. Several other companies (UFC, PRIDE, K-1, and others) are attempting the same thing. This group represents a lot of MMA fighters (including UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture and Mark Coleman among others) and the hope is to develop a TV show (this never goes anywhere. Bischoff briefly touches on it in his book but yeah, this turns out to be nothing).
  • A Terry Gordy Memorial show was held this week and featured Michael Hayes coming out of retirement to wrestle. They opened the show by playing "Freebird" and a 10-bell salute. Gordy was booked to work this show before he passed and Hayes filled in for him. Hayes teamed with Terry Gordy's son Ray Gordy (later known to WWE fans as Jesse from the Jesse & Festus gimmick). Triple H also made a surprise appearance on the show, since it was being held in Birmingham and he's living there temporarily while doing rehab for his torn quad. Stephanie McMahon was backstage as well (with Triple H) but didn't appear before the crowd.
  • NJPW is trying to get baseball player Kazuhiro Kiyohara to wrestle at the January 4th Tokyo Dome show. Kiyohara is a huge baseball star in Japan (and baseball is by far the most popular sport in the country) and he plays for the Yomiuri Giants, the oldest and most revered team in Japan. So this would be huge if it happens. Dave compares Kiyohara's fame in Japan to the same, if not bigger, than Ken Griffey Jr. here in the United States. Kiyohara is a wrestling fan and has even trained with wrestlers in the past during the off-season.
  • Dave mentions an indie wrestler named Bad Business Brown in Kentucky who recently passed away from a brain aneurysm and I only include it because the story is horrifying: "Brown was coming home with his wife from an indie show that night when he complained of not feeling well and his nose started bleeding. He asked his wife to get him something at a convenience store, and by the time she came back, he had passed out and blood was coming out of his eye sockets."
  • Alex Wright has decided to stay in the U.S. for now. If you recall last week, it was mentioned that he was leaving. But his WCW contract doesn't expire until early next year, so he'll be staying at least until that runs out.
  • Vampiro made an appearance for Incredibly Strange Wrestling during their show at the Van's Warped Tour. ISW wrestler Oi Boy interrupted Rancid's concert and got into a (scripted) altercation with band member Tim Armstrong. It led to Vampiro coming out and putting Oi Boy though a table, to a huge pop. Later that night, Vampiro wrestled a match for the promotion on the Warped Tour grounds (sadly, I can't find video of any of this).
  • Honky Tonk Man is threatening to file a lawsuit against Jerry Lawler for using footage of HTM in videos he's released in the past. Dave mentions that HTM and Lawler are cousins that have had a major falling out and says HTM is obsessed with making Lawler look bad. For what it's worth, Dave says that after Lawler's recent public online search for a new girlfriend, Lawler doesn't really need any help in that department (oh yeah, I forgot about that. In an attempt to make Stacy Carter jealous after she left him, Lawler tried to host an online search for a new girlfriend. He was basically just recruiting starfuckers on the internet).
  • Remember that Urban Wrestling Alliance promotion? Probably not. Anyway, Rocky Johnson (father of The Rock) works for them as a trainer and said that they will be starting on BET soon. Dave points out the fact that BET is owned by Viacom, which airs WWF and there's an exclusivity agreement between them (which is why WWF's first attempt to buy WCW in late-2000 fell through) but given that it's Rock's father and that this promotion is no threat, Dave suspects WWF might not care enough to fight it (indeed, I think this airs on BET for, like, a minute).
  • Mikey Whipwreck is saying he's retiring and his retirement match is scheduled for next week in Ontario (of course not. Although to be fair, he did only wrestle once or twice after for the next year. But by 2003, he was basically back working indies on a regular basis and hasn't stopped to this day).
  • The long term plan of splitting the WWF into 2 brands doesn't have a timetable yet but almost certainly won't take place before the end of this year. Dave talks about the ways a brand split would affect the travel and taping schedules for everyone.
  • It's pretty much a done deal that Wrestlemania 18 will take place at the Skydome in Toronto. The official announcement is expected in 2 weeks when Raw is in Toronto.
  • Notes from Raw: Jericho made fun of Stephanie McMahon's new breast implants, complete with before and after pics. Dave notes that Stephanie was on the Opie & Anthony show and talked about seeing a sign in the crowd that said "saggy puppies" which was one of the keys to her making the decision to get them done. Undertaker and Kane squashed Palumbo and O'Haire, selling nothing for them. Rock came out and cut a promo and dropped a "motherfucker" which was bleeped and also called Shane McMahon a "pussy" (some execs at TNN weren't happy about it but there doesn't appear to be any repercussions from it). (The Rock video is on the Network, can't find it on YouTube. Stephanie was supposed to interrupt him mid-word before he said the full "motherfucker" and, well, she was late and Rock....kinda had to say it). And finally, everyone made fun of Hurricane Helms' Green Lantern tattoo throughout the show.
WATCH: Chris Jericho pokes fun at Stephanie before and after
  • Rey Mysterio met with Jim Ross and John Laurinaitis (Johnny Ace) last week at the Smackdown show in L.A. Juventud Guerrera was with Mysterio, but he didn't have a meeting scheduled. Mysterio still has a WCW contract that runs through the end of the year. Ross told Mysterio to keep his WCW deal for now and to stay in shape and when it expires, they'll talk to him again in January, especially since they might be splitting the roster at that point. After the meeting, Guerrera basically cornered Jim Ross at catering and asked for a job, which isn't exactly proper protocol. Ross basically told him the same thing as Mysterio, try back in January. He also said that while they love Guerrera's talent, they won't put up with any drug issues. Guerrera swore he doesn't have a problem, but of course, everyone that has a problem says that so he's got to stay clean for awhile to prove it. Paul Heyman said he would go to bat for him as well.
  • The latest on Jerry Lawler is that his latest online antics aren't helping him return to WWF any time soon. Particularly, his going online and basically trying to audition new girlfriends has caused some side-eyes with regards to how he's looked at in the locker room. There's also a lot of heat on him for when he posted the creative team's email addresses and phone numbers online awhile back. Lawler recently claimed Vince Russo offered him $35,000 to do commentary for a 10-day tour of the Australia promotion that Russo is involved with, but Lawler turned him down. In regards to all the things Honky Tonk Man is saying about Lawler online, Lawler says that HTM called him recently and suggested that could "work the marks" by trashing each other online and getting hits for their websites but Lawler doesn't want any part of it.
  • Chris Benoit is back to light training but still wearing a soft cast on his neck for a couple more weeks. But his bad arm is already back to normal size. He was backstage at Raw this week.
  • Eddie Guerrero is still in rehab for drug and alcohol issues. There's no timetable for his return, WWF is giving him all the time he needs.
  • WWF has added C. Delores Tucker as a defendant to its lawsuit against the PTC. They've also made some new allegations, such as the PTC falsely inflating the numbers of its membership base. Dave thinks WWF is perfectly right in making these accusations, but he does find some humor in WWF accusing someone else of publicly inflating numbers.
  • Shawn Michaels did an interview with the Winnipeg Sun (he was in town making an appearance at a CFL game) and said he has no desire to ever wrestle again and called himself a dinosaur in the business. "My personal feeling is I don't want to wrestle again because I don't want to get hurt," Shawn said.

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 22

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 22 - Let's meet today's contestants:
James was denied DD2, but scored on the other two and entered FJ with $43,314 vs. $7,200 for Mary, while Liz departed after DJ at -$2,400.
DD1, $1,000 - 20TH CENTURY - On Sept. 1, 1969, King Idris suddenly became ex-royalty in this African country & a colonel took power (James bet his entire "two dimes", which Alex understood was $2,000.)
DD2, $2,000 - WORDS FROM MYTHOLOGY - This term for a cure-all bear the name of a daughter of Asclepius (Liz stood at -$400 and lost $2,000, the wager of which Alex clarified is not a "True Daily Double", an area of confusion in the recent Teachers Tournament.)
DD3, $1,200 - GEOGRAPHY - The Southern border of Argentina's Pampas is this region that's about the size of Texas (James won $11,914 from his score of $15,400.)
FJ - 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN HISTORY - In 1832, by a narrow margin, this state's legislature rejected considered abolition; a split was completed in 1863
Both players were correct on FJ, with James adding $28,571 to win with $71,885 for a 25-day total of $1,939,027, as the $2 million mark will likely fall with the next James victory.
Musical miscues: No one knew the composers for the original Mary Poppins were the Sherman brothers, or could provide the second word in the musical style knows as Western swing.
This day in Trebekistan: When Alex came out pretending to roll the dice, I thought I was watching an old episode of High Rollers. The only things missing were a big pile of hair, a mustache and Ruta Lee.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Libya? DD2 - What is panacea? DD3 - Who is Patagonia? FJ - What is Virginia?

Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Apr. 15

Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Apr. 15 - Here are today's contestants:
James fell to $0 late in round one with a shocking miss on DD1, but it was a minor speed bump as he scored on both DDs in DJ and recorded another runaway at $35.415 vs. $12,400 for Kevin and $4,800 for Megan.
DD1, $600 - THE FIRST WINNER - In 1903 Maurice Garin was its first winner in 94 hours, 33 minutes, 14 seconds (James lost $8,400 on an all-in bet.)
DD2, $1,200 - ITALIAN STRESSING - This physicist had a Jewish wife, Laura; when Fascist Italy adopted policies of Nazi Germany, it was time to leave (James shoved for $7,200 and was correct.)
DD3, $1,600 - ONE-ACT PLAYS - Conversations devolve into babbling in Ionesco's "The Bald Soprano" a prime example of the theatre of this (James won $8,615 from his score of $15,600.)
FJ - STAMPS - Living people are rarely seen on a stamp, but in July 1945 the USPS issued one depicting this military event
James and Kevin were correct on FJ, while Megan knew it but couldn't finish writing it in time. James added $10,029 to win with $45,444 for an eight-day total of $460,479.
Triple Stumpers of the day: No one figured out that the kind of evergreen tree sought by a clue was pine, or the 6-letter term for the "needle" that plays vinyl records is stylus.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex stated that he believed this was the first time "Stamps" had been an FJ category, but the topic had been used for FJ at least seven times before, although not since 2004.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Tour de France? DD2 - Who was Fermi? DD3 - What is the absurd? FJ - What is the flag raising on Iwo Jima?

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Mar. 27

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Mar. 27 - Let's meet today's contestants:
Steven had a great first round, and while a miss on DD2 gave his opponents hope for avoiding a runaway, they couldn't quite stay alive into FJ with Steven at $21,600, Emma with $10,600 and Amy at $5,200.
DD1 $800 - HE WAS A SENATOR AND PRESIDENT - Though he served Penn. in the Senate from 1834 to 1845, he supported pro-slavery Southern positions; he didn't get better as Pres. (Steven won $2,400)
DD2, $1.200 - TENTH - In 1585 Flemish mathematician Simon Stevin's work "The Tenth" introduced this numbering system to Europe (Steven lost $3,000)
DD3, $800 - DOCTOR - This doctor made flaked cereal a thing when he started giving it to his sanitarium patients, including Mr. Post (Steven won $2,600)
FJ - WORLD WAR II - In 1943 millions of matchbooks were distributed in the Philippines with this 3-word quote to boost morale
Steven and Amy were correct on FJ, with Steven standing pat to win $21,600. In the race for second money, Emma had a lock but decided to wager $5,200 anyway, dropping to $5,400 and was fortunate to hold the place spot as Amy bet $0.
Triple Stumpers of the day: No one remembered the Senator and scandal-plagued President who died in office, Warren G. Harding, and Alex seemed appalled the players couldn't identify the youngest of the service academies, that of the Air Force.
Judging the writers: They were about ten days too late with that category about fake Irish people, and I'm sure the players would like to tell them to stick that "Mel O'Drama" clue right up their O'Behinds.
Correct Qs: DD1 - Who was Buchanan? DD2 - What is the decimal system? DD3 - Who was Kellogg? FJ - What is "I shall return"?

Does anyone think that EA should be required to include a self-exclusion program when it comes to packs similar to the way the daily fantasy sites and gambling entities like OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) are required to have now?

For anyone not familiar with how self-exclusion programs work, it's essentially used in situations where individuals feel like they have a problem with their gambling or spending habits with regards to sports betting and they enter into an agreement where they are ineligible for a given period of time. For instance, Draftkings now has a self-exclusion option on their account settings pages where players have the option to be banned from contest entries for periods of up to 3 or 5 years I believe. Similarly, OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation ) has a similar program, here's an excerpt from their website:
"Self-Exclusion is a voluntary self-help program offered by OLG and requires an individual to commit to staying away from Charitable Gaming Centres in Ontario. An individual who is registered in OLG’s Charitable Gaming Self-Exclusion Program is prohibited from entering all Charitable Gaming Centres in the province, is removed from Charitable Gaming direct marketing, and is ineligible to win Charitable Gaming prizes. A self-excluded individual is required to reinstate before returning to any Charitable Gaming Centre."

I feel like this is a genuine issue within NHL and other EA games and I think it should garner a bit more attention from EA. People on this sub have admitted to thousands of dollars lost to their pack spending and it's clearly a problem. Do you think EA should have an option where a users accounts and/or credit card can be voluntary excluded from buying packs for a period of time in an effort to help the user, or is this way too wishful of thinking for a company like EA? Just a thought I had tonight and felt like it might make for some interesting discussion.

Changes to Sports Betting in Ontario? Gambling statistics in Canada 10 Sports Betting Tips to Make Better Sports Picks in 2020 How to make money betting on sports! ($$$ EASY MONEY $$$) Ontario, Canada changes gambling laws

Sports Betting to Become Legal in Ontario While players are limited to betting on three games at once, an old bill has resurfaced that has made legally betting on a single game a likely reality. If you have been closely following gambling laws in Canada, you probably have not only heard of Bill C-290, you are probably sick of hearing about it. That is one area of the law that is mandated on a federal level, and upheld by all provinces and territories of Canada. Sports betting is only legal when multiple picks are made (i.e. parlay betting). Ontario offers such wagering via the Pro-Line sports lottery, available online at PlayOLG.ca and in countless retail locations across the province. Ontario sports betting offers a wide variety of betting options. But this comes as no surprise as the province is home to quite several teams in the biggest sports leagues, that is; a team in Major League Soccer, two teams in the NHL and three teams in the CFL. Proline sports betting is the predominant wagering method in the Ontario region. Point Spread, Pro Picks, and self-titled Proline, are the three main betting options offered. While hockey wagering is King in Canada, USA and Canadian professional football, American college football and basketball, along with European soccer and pro baseball are Off Track Betting in Ontario.
